We moved a few months ago, and it made no sense to haul two 75 lb tube-type monitors to the new home. Those went to a local charity, and once we arrived at our new house we purchased two of these 19 inch Asus LCD monitors through Amazon. I was a little bit concerned about what the image quality would be since our computers don't have display adapters with DVI output. However, even using the standard VGA port, the image quality is far above what we had with the old tube-type monitors. Also, it was great to de-clutter the desktop even more by getting rid of the old speakers and using the ones that are built into these LCD monitors. You get plenty of sound to play back audio and video clips, but if you are into wall-shaking loud bass for video games or pop music, you will want more than what these little built-in speakers can provide.

I needed a small monitor for my Mac mini that had a nice picture. I would say this one had a nice image for the price but it was good for even more money than Amazon wanted. This is a really good screen. Very bright and crisp image.

Wonderful colors and nice design. I m using it as a second monitor for my laptop and it really is making the difference. For a reasonable price, too!

I had some concerns initially, but those turned out to be the ASUS mini and not the monitor. The only
flaw is the single red stuck pixel; this is not an issue for normal viewing and given the excellent price ($120)
this is acceptable.

Highlights

Notes
- setup booklet seems week and not in-line with the quality of the
rest of the product. This alone says to me "ASUS is new to building monitors",
though I have no idea when they started. All I know is ASUS has
a strong reputation for high quality motherboards.

- When the monitor arrived in early December, I had to try it on my work
laptop. Right away I noticed a stuck red pixel about a third of the way
in from the left and halfway down. Also, it was difficult to get tightly
focused text - I tried several resolutions. Eventually I ran through the
monitor adjustments and tweaked the "focus-clock" settin - I changed
it to 49 (default is 0). This was better but stilll some areas of soft focus.

UPDATE 1/4/10 - I did a monitor reset (via onscreen menu), and now
at 1440x900 (full) resolution, text is consistently tight across the screen.

Since this is my first LCD monitor I don't have a lot to compare with. I am satisfied with it though. The only thing I have noticed, is a small red dot near the upper middle part of the screen. It doesn't bother me so I am not concerned about it but I think it's a defect after all. Oh, and the volume on the speakers is rather low so I am not using them.

The ASUS VH196T 19-inch Widescreen LCD monitor is just what we were looking for to replace our old fading monitor. The screen is large, but still fits in our computer desk just fine. The picture quality is very good. The speakers, as other reviewers have noted, aren't very loud, so we are continuing to use our old speakers. No problem there.

I checked several big box stores, shopping around for the best monitor at the best price. Amazon beat them all on selection and price. They weren't even close enough to Amazons price to be tempting!

I wanted this monitor, but was discouraged by the message that the item would not ship for several days. Guess what? I chose one day shipping, and received it the next day! Yeah! Amazon is the best!

I don't have too much to say about this monitor other than it looks great, operates as expected, and when connected via the DVI connection, the display looks crisp and clean. I'm pretty happy with the purchase and am considering purchasing another in the near future to configure a dual-monitor setup.

I purchased this monitor to replace my 17" CRT and I have not been disappointed. It cleared out so much room on our desk that we can actually use it as a desk. My video card has DVI and VGA inputs and this monitor supports both (both cables are included). Easy to set up and great picture. You won't go wrong with this monitor. The included speakers that were built into the monitor were a nice surprise. I didn't notice that when I was purchasing it. They aren't great speakers but they helped to decrease the desk clutter even more.

This one works really good.
Very sharp picture. It's good for playing video games or watching movies.
Only complain is that you don't want to trust on these speakers. They are good if you use your PC to write documents, chat, etc. If you want to play video-games, watch movies, or watch youtube videos; these might not be enought so you'll need a new pair of speakers.
