Hey All,

Unpacked the unit and hooked it up to a ThinkCentre and instant High Resolution LCD monitor. Add in a HDTV NTSC-ATSC-QAM/RGB/VGA to VGA/DVI Converter and instant HDTV.

The strengths as a computer monitor are the ease in which it will integrate with your OS software whether, Microsoft, Linux or PC-BSD (FreeBSD). To be used as a universal video monitor device, a remote or a IR AV code that would allow you to interface the menu controls with an external remote would be welcome. The audio is a bit tinny and does not appear to be amplified. (If you are intending to use a line-out audio source you may want to add an amplifier in the circuit.)

If you were expecting this to actually be a 19 inch visible monitor you will be disappointed. By either measure, the width as in the Amazon details section or by making a diagonal measure, the visible screen does not quite measure up. The actual width of the outside of the case is as indicated in the Amazon "Product/Technical details". If you measure the visible screen diagonally, it is more of a 18.75 inch screen. However, for the price, this has been a good over all choice for my purposes. As to the cost, for a new Acer X183H 18.5 monitor the cost would be around $90 (USD) and not be as high in resolution, with the ASUS running in at 1680x1050 at about a 0.285 pitch.

Generally the video is smooth and reacts quickly with nearly no visible smudging during gross video image movement. The viewing angle horizontally is very good; however, like many, the vertical viewing angle is not as good. This feeds into the last possible gotcha though, the monitor mount provided does not support the angle adjustment you might want from a universal monitor or desktop.

Over all I am please with my purchase. I would have liked the details to have been more accurately represented; but, then again I might have overlooked this unit. To find a 16:9 18.5 monitor today for under $100, where as simply 5 years ago they would have run into the $300 dollar range, I am amazed at the changes in technology and reduction of costs in the last three years. To get this unit with free shipping definitely puts it in the better value category.

As another reviewer stated, the description is a little off. This is the VW192T+ as described, but they have pictures of the VW192T which has no audio. This 19" has a display of 1680x1050, which not many in this size class have. I have it connected to a GeForce 9400gt for a web browsing computer, images are clear and vibrant. Don't bother with the speakers unless you absolutely have to, like the majority of monitor speakers, they (for lack of better term) suck. This monitor is well worth the money spent.
