This review is from: AT 1ST SIGHT (Hardcover)
The Smithsonian's collection of photographs are cataloged by discipline. This book pulls a few from a variety (of disciplines) and chronicles the evolution of photography from a mere documentation to fine art. It also discusses how photography has influenced the evolution of American culture; it's role in advertising and also how photographs have come to be recognized as representations of "truth" (as court-room documents). Many of the photographs are exceptional examples of their genre, from early methods up to current objets d' art. An excellent enticement to visit the museum(s) and a potentially fine gift for anyone interested in the history/art.
