Product Description

Amazon.com Review

AT&T's 9400 telephone offers cordless convenience. And with the 900 MHz frequency band and digital spread spectrum (DSS) technology, you also get great range, clarity, and privacy.

Setting up the phone for basic operation was easy--we just inserted the battery pack, plugged in the AC adapter/recharger, and connected the phone cable to a standard RJ-11 jack. We recommend that you allow the battery pack to charge for an uninterrupted 12 hours before using the phone.

You control the features through the base unit's two front-mounted buttons and two side-mounted switches; the handset has eight buttons and one switch in addition to the usual 0 through 9, #, and * buttons. Using the features is straightforward and very easy, but you may need to consult the manual to learn the more advanced features, such as storing and editing numbers for memory dialing.

We were surprised to see that this phone has a page/intercom feature, not just a handset locator. It was unclear to us why the AT&T 9400 has the speaker and microphone in the base unit, but doesn't include speakerphone functions. Still, with its well-chosen suite of features and its DSS technology for clear sound, greater range, and better security, this is a nice cordless phone for home or the office.

Pros

  • DSS for clearer sound and longer range
  • Long battery life
  • Easy to set up and use

Cons

  • Has intercom but no speakerphone functions

3.0 out of 5 stars A very good phone, December 2, 1999

This review is from: AT&T 9400 900 MHz Digital Spread Spectrum Cordless Phone (Office Product)
I run a small hotel. As a result I am not in the office very much and am always out doing something else. The phone system installed in the hotel allows me to transfer all incoming and internal calls to a particular phone extension. As a result I get lots of calls and this phone gets lots of use. I have had many kinds of 900mghz phones in the past and for the money this one has been the best. I bought two of them at the same time so that when the battery runs out of one I start using the other. The battery lasts usually about 4 days. It has been dropped, abused and used quite a lot. The only problem I have had is breaking the belt clip. I would like to get two more belt clips but am unsure where to find them. I have been very satisfied with the phones.

1.0 out of 5 stars The 'beeping' while charging feature is very annoying., October 17, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: AT&T 9400 900 MHz Digital Spread Spectrum Cordless Phone (Office Product)
When the battery is charging on this phone it beeps constantly. This is a very annoying feature, that we could find no way to turn off. The range and static free signal is excellent. This does not make up for the warning low power feature.

We live in a area with frequest power outages, during which the phone runs out of stand-by power. When the power comes back up, the phone begins to beep every 1/2 to 1 minute until it is rechagred (8 to 12 hours). We tried replacing the battery, the phone proceeded to beep for 3 full days. Our final solution was to buy a new phone (with out the low power notification).

If you tend to run the power down on your phone I would caution you against this particular model.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great phone, better price!, December 12, 1999

I have used this phone now for about a month. Not entirely sure where people are getting this whole thing of the phone's battery being short lived. I used the phone and left it off the base for a week at a time and it still performs like a champ. Range is unreal and clarity is great. The only thing that is a little bad is the fact that it is slightly hard to cradle on your neck, but for the price, you are getting a superior phone for sure!
