5.0 out of 5 stars Goes where no conventional cordless has gone before
This phone is my first excursion into the world of 900 MHz telephones. I am quite pleased with this product. It has at least two times the range of my old AT&T 5470 which it replaced. The battery back-up for the base station is a useful feature, especially if you are stuck with an unreliable electric utility company. The handset is noticeably smaller than a...

3.0 out of 5 stars Hurts my ear
This phone has great range and clarity. It's also very small and light, making it quite portable. However, it doesn't have many features, the volume is low and not adjustable, and the dang thing is so small that someone with stubby fingers would have trouble dialing. Also, it's uncomfortable to use. The phone wasn't right for me and I returned it for the ATT 9400...

3.0 out of 5 stars NOT really headset compatible, February 25, 2000
This review is from: AT&T 9520 900 MHz Digital Spread Spectrum Cordless Phone (Office Product)
I specifically purchased the AT&T 9520 to use with a headset. I even bought the "recommended" (by Amazon.com) AT&T headset. When I received the phone, I discovered that there was inadequate headset microphone amplification resulting in callers not being able to hear me speaking. And this is NOT a headset problem. I tried several different headsets (Jabra, Plantronics, Radio Shack) and they all had the same problem. All of these headsets worked fine with a Northwestern Bell 39512 2-line 900MHz phone that I bought AFTER I gave up on the AT&T 9520. The only good point to this phone is the phenomenal range, but this is typical of 900MHz DSS phones. Bottom line - good phone for the money if you're not going to use a headset.

The battery back-up for the base station is a useful feature, especially if you are stuck with an unreliable electric utility company. The handset is noticeably smaller than a conventional cordless and is very portable. A user will find the keypad difficult to use only if he has fingers the size of bananas. I also purchased the AT&T 90800 headset for use with this phone and recommend it as a useful accessory. Overall, this phone has proven to be as advertised.

2.0 out of 5 stars Terrible Tin Sound, January 26, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: AT&T 9520 900 MHz Digital Spread Spectrum Cordless Phone (Office Product)
A tin sounding feedback of my own voice. Unit is too small to hold comfortably for any length of time. Key pad too small to use consistently without error. For $100 seems like a toy rather than a durable electronic device. I returned the phone and am researching for replacement.

I bought this phone recently and am pretty happy with it. I also have hands free set attached to it and it has been working admirably. The only complaint is the sound sometimes seems to have a little echo. Although it is somewhat noticeable, it has not really been an issue with sound quality. I also like the size of the handset because if your using it with the hands free set you can just slip it right into your pocket. As to one of the reviews complaining it being to small, I have not experienced this personally. Other than that miner defect I have noticed nothing else wrong with this phone. I would recommend it. Also the range of this phone is great.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Range and Size, June 8, 2000
This review is from: AT&T 9520 900 MHz Digital Spread Spectrum Cordless Phone (Office Product)
After trying 10 different phones, this phone had the greatest range (more than 2.4GHz). The phone fits into a pocket and is easy to carry around. We use 7 of these phones at our company and they work great in a 60,000 sq ft building with many rooms. It has the best range (by far) of any consumer cordless phones we tested.

2.0 out of 5 stars Too small for it's own good, January 16, 2000
This review is from: AT&T 9520 900 MHz Digital Spread Spectrum Cordless Phone (Office Product)
We thought that a small cordless phone would be a great idea. Boy were we wrong. It's like having to talk on your cell-phone at home. The phone is unomfortable to hold for long periods of time and it has that same tin-can like sound-quality that you get from the tiny speakers they put in cell phones. Also, for a products that cost $100 it looks and feels cheap.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great phone, January 24, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: AT&T 9520 900 MHz Digital Spread Spectrum Cordless Phone (Office Product)
This telephone has outstanding range and clarity. It's at least double the earlier 900 Mhz phones. Compact and very light, fully recharges in 4 hours and comes with a spare battery. This phone has a 4 step volume adjustment and the button is right on the handset.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great range phone, September 10, 2002

I have three of the HS 8500 phones. My family uses them simultaneously with no cross-interference at distances up to 1/2 mile. No other phone - especially the gigahertz phones - have been this good or this dependable. The battery problem is fixable. For those of you disillusioned with the 8500 or the 9520, I'd like to take them off your hands.

1.0 out of 5 stars If not for the battery..., June 23, 2001

Theoretically, this is a great phone. It looks nice, feels good (solid and not too bulky), has reasonable sound quality and range, and a headset jack. As a bonus, it has a compartment with an extra battery in the back of the base, for those long conference calls. Perfect.

Unfortunately, it suffers from one fatal flaw - the battery. When we bought the phone, we immediately noticed that the battery life wasn't exactly long; if we didn't always return the handset to the base, it would run out.

Now, less than a year later, both batteries die suddenly a few minutes into the first call, no matter how long we leave it on the charger. To make matters worse, the replacement battery doesn't appear to be one of the standard ones available at local stores (which have a wide selection), so we can't replace the batteries; we're forced to buy a new phone.

Don't buy this phone; it's unusable. A pity, because in every other respect this is a great product.
