The Call Director has a large LCD screen to present complete caller-ID information for two lines and a symmetrical button layout, which suggests that the phone really is "directing" its two lines.
We were able to set up the phone--install batteries, set the clock, set home and local area codes for caller ID, and program the memory dialing--without consulting the manual. Still, we do suggest reading the manual so you don't miss the many cool features. (For example, we discovered that you can include 30-second pauses in the memory dialing.)
In our test of the Call Director, calls sounded clear and distinct. Switching between lines was easy, and in general, operating the phone was no more difficult than operating a one-line model. We were especially impressed with the speakerphone, which enabled us to talk and listen at the same time--even a television or radio playing in the background did not interfere with our conversation. Though the Call Director isn't technically a full-duplex system--it simply lowers the speaker volume automatically when you're talking--the results are quite spectacular. It rivals full-duplex speakerphone systems that can cost hundreds of dollars more.
The Call Director's impressive performance and features place it among the best in its class. This two-line phone would make an excellent addition to a small business or home office.

Good value, not the greatest phone.,
By A Customer
This review is from: AT&T 962 2-Line Duplex Speakerphone with Caller ID (Dove Gray) (Office Product)
It looks really neat, but it has some "bugs"... Occasionally, the phone will "Freeze" when scrolling through the call history. Only way to correct it is to unplug the phone and plug it back in again. Other than that, it functions great and the speakerphone is very good.

Dysfunctional phone,

Well I had hoped to replace my separate caller id and voice mail flashing light boxes with the built-in functions of this phone, but... the caller id function does not work. It will not scroll through all the calls received, and I found the new call light failed to flash when I had voice mail to receive, and it was impossible to turn off the new call light, I thought the phone was a defect and Amazon exchanged it, but the new one failed the same way. AT+T/Lucent 800 number in the manual was of no help either...

Just Like it Was Supposed to Work,
By Mike (New Hampshire) - See all my reviews

I, for one, am very pleased with this phone. I bought it because the Visual Message Waiting indicator on my caller ID box wasn't working right, and I was sick of dealing with the two separate boxes. I'll agree the backlight being on all of the time is a little annoying, but otherwise I found it very easy to set up, the voice mail and caller ID features work great, and it's all-around a very good phone. For under $100, I found none better.
