I wanted a corded/cordless phone system, with answering machine and expandability. After researching phones and reading reviews, I decided on the AT&T 6.0 corded/cordless system with two cordless phones; I then added two additional cordless phones. Described in reviews I read before purchasing, I was disappointed that the base unit did not have a blinking light to indicate a message. HOWEVER, when setting up the system, I read that you could program the base unit to beep, signaling a message. This has worked perfectly -- even better than a blinking light, since you don't even have to look at the machine to know you have a message. [You can stop the beeping by pressing the mute button.] I absolutely love this system!! Best features: speaker/hands-free on all units, all buttons clearly marked and intuitive, mute button also stops phone from ringing/beeping, easily programmed/great step-by-step directions, convenient intercom/transfer functions, dial a number from caller ID by adding a "1" and then pressing "send," battery holds charge (out of the recharger) for several days, excellent range, and, finally, I was able to go from five different phones to one standardized system. My only need/wish not met (a minor one) is that there is no clip on the cordless units -- all my old phones had clips, so I was used to clipping it my belt or a pocket and heading to another room or outside. Although I haven't tried it yet, I found an inexpensive clip at Best Buy that can be mounted to the back of the phone. After 3 months, I was so happy with this system that I bought the same one for my elderly in-laws; they also find it easy to see and use, and like the features & standardization (they had three different phones). A great product/value, so far....

4.0 out of 5 stars Add-On Phone Works Great, September 25, 2010

Remember that if you are purchasing this phone you must already own the AT&T DECT 6.0 phone system as this is just an extra phone for that set and will not work as a stand-alone phone. Having already owned the AT&T DECT 6.0 cordless phone set that came with three cordless phones, I already knew these cordless phones were of good quality. This add-on phone to the set is no different. The range and sound quality are both very good and it was easy to setup with the existing phone system.

This phone is good. We bought one set and two extra handsets. All four phones work well in the house. Sound quality is excellent, "feel" when holding and talking on the phone is good, and it's easy to use. I have two complaints. One, the handsets are preprogrammed "1, 2, 3, 4" etc. You can't, however, "name" the phones as I could in my old, similar set. So, if you are planning on using the intercom feature, you need to remember that "Handset 1" is in the kitchen, "Handset 2" is in the basement, etc. I much preferred being able to name the handsets. Now, I just have a piece of tape on the back of the phone with the location of all handsets written on it, but that's a design flaw. Two, there are LOTS of features on this phone, but the ones you'd need most often, such as "what number just called me?" aren't so obvious. You'll need to spend a little time with the manual to get this all figured out. Overall, though, I like this set and would buy it again.

We live in a well-built home with plaster over drywall. In some areas the walls are almost an inch think and the ceiling all have metal sheets to help the plaster adhere. As a result we've NEVER been able to use a cordless phone system because the signal would not penetrate the ceiling.

This AT&T phone system with DECT 6.0 technology has no issue at all with the ceiling. As a result I bought 6 more headsets (2 are backups) and we use the intercom feature all the time.

This phone simply works!

The only thing missing for me is a jack for a headset. I'm not sure why it doesn't have it but it's a great phone [system] none the less.

5.0 out of 5 stars I AM COMPLETELY SATISFIED WITH THIS PRODUCT...I WILL BE ORDERING MORE, May 1, 2011

Two things to remember when you purchase this handset and charger: First, it is simply a hand set and is meant to be added to your base system. It is NOT a cordless phone per se...you must have the base unit. Secondly, do make sure that this unit is compatible with the base unit you already own. It is made for specific unit and you need to check very closely the numbers to be sure you are purchasing the correct handset. This is a simply matter of reading!

Now that being said....

I did check the number on my base unit (CL82409 in my case) and this handset is compatible. I ordered three of these handsets to add to the three which came with my original purchase, giving me (of course) six phones I am able to scatter though out the house which as reduced the matter of stubbed toes (As you know, we here in the Ozarks go barefooted year round, for the most part, particularly in the house) by at least 80 percent as I no longer have to dash through our house to try to reach the phone. This is particularly true at night.

Now as we have a rather largish and spread-out house, there is quite a bit of distance between all the handsets and the base unit...our house is rather rambling with many corners and oddly placed rooms. We have experienced absolutely no problems with reception on any of the handsets; no matter where in the home they are placed. The range is more than adequate and we get extremely good reception. This has not always been so with like products made by other companies.

The directions provided with these units are clear and concise. This is important to me as I am not one of those individuals who follow directions well. (Nothing to do with the review but it was of interest to me recently when I found my old grade cards and progress reports from Kindergarten and First Grade. On each the teacher has noted that "Donnie does not follow directions well," and "Donnie socializes well but does not like to share," and "Donnie talks too much." My kindergarten teacher also noted that "Donnie is quite artistic but tends to eat his crayons while completing his projects." Anyway, the directions for these phones were simple and great and it is an absolute snap to program them into your base unit.

The hand units are slim, attractive and take up very little space. All of the advertized functions work perfectly. (I was delighted with the quality of sound on the "speaker" mode.

The cost here is excellent and the shipping was extremely fast and efficient. I plan to shortly purchase another of these so I can have a phone on my back porch; a luxury I know, but hey...I am old and deserve it. Perhaps the chicken coop on down the road????

4.0 out of 5 stars AT&T DECT 6.0 Black/Silver Digital Accessory Handset Only (CL80109), May 12, 2010

AT&T DECT 6.0 Black/Silver Digital Accessory Handset Only (CL80109)

We purchased these handsets to add to our existing system.

Pros: These phones work very well and we have not had any issues with static, interference or dropped calls. It does not interfere with our wireless router like some other phones have and it is not affected by the microwave oven. Controls are simple and well labeled. Volume levels are great.

Cons: We found two minor cons. The first would be the tacky looking silver plastic. It just looks cheap. The other issue is both the handsets and charging bases do not have enough weight added and are easily knocked over.

We would purchase this item again and recommend it to others!

I purchased the handset as an add-on to an existing handsfree system. the new handset works well and was fairly easy to "mate" with my existing system. I was surprised to note that the handset does not have a headphone jack. One of the reasons for my purchase was to use this in a home office and to be able to use the head phone capability to allow me to access my computer while I was on the phone. Fortunately the handsets on my existing system have headphone jacks so I merely swapped handset locations.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good addition to other AT&T phones., July 9, 2011

This review is from: AT&T CL80109 DECT 6.0 Cordless Phone Accessory Handset, Silver/Black (Accessory handset only) (Office Product)
After installing the AT&T U-verse system, I discovered I needed to switch to cordless phones. U-verse hates the old copper lines in my house.

After reading Consumer Reports and these Amazon reviews, I bought the AT&T DECT 6.0 Digital 4-Handset, plus this fifth identical AT&T DECT 6.0 Accessory Handset from Amazon. Oddly, my local major AT&T store does not stock these phones. These phones work great with U-verse VoIP (or normal copper lines).

Good:

1. The phones are compact and light, though I find the silver finish rather cheesy-looking.

2. Sound quality is excellent, handsets were ready to go (after a lengthy charging), and instructions are fairly readable.

3. The AT&T DECT 6.0 Accessory Handset requires one additional step so it would "link" to the rest of the system, but it isn't too confusing and it is good to go.

Minor gripes:

1. These handset bases are nice and small, but they cannot be mounted to the wall. This would have been an easy design option, but the designers did not bother. All these lightweight units are just sitting around cluttering tables and waiting to be knocked off instead of being safely mounted on vertical surfaces.

2. Batteries arrived about 98 percent drained and take about 16 hours to charge.

3. Handsets cause an annoying "buzz" whenever it is near my computer's sound system. In all fairness, it is probably a grounding issue with my computer's speakers.

Overall good, inexpensive units slightly flawed by AT&T's sloppy corporate mentality.

I am grateful that I was able to purchase this handset via Amazon. I visited a few of the local retail stores, the major ones, and was surprised that this item was not available. It was included in an entire new phone system, but I didn't need a new system. Needless to say, this item works just as great as it's predecessor, before it was thrown across the room that is! I recommend this item to those of you who need it. It comes with it's own charging base and power cord, and the price is affordable. Also, it was delivered quickly! :)
