At home or in a business you can take advantage of the intercom capability between handset and base, plus the hands-free feature in both handset and base. The 2455 is compatible for headset use for a completely hands-free conversation, giving you the liberty to multitask from further afield. AT&T's digital sound quality and operation on the 2.4 GHz band ensure clearer connections with less interference than older-model cordless phones. Frequency hopping and digital spread spectrum technology further improve sound quality and help provide security against eavesdropping.
The integrated answering system with 15 minutes of digital recording time displays the name and number of the caller and how many messages you have received. The unit is expandable to incorporate up to four handsets and bases.

Hissssss in earpiece,
By JS (Midwest) - See all my reviews
This review is from: AT&T 2455 2.4 GHz DSS Cordless Phone with Answering System and Caller ID (Metallic Charcoal) (Office Product)
Basically the 2440 and 2455 use the same technology and communication electronics, just packaged a bit differently between the two models. Tomorrow I am packing up the second model 2455 phone I've tried and sending it back for good. This phone has more hiss in the earpiece during conversations than any other phone I've EVER used. It's a shame, because I love the features and styling of this phone. Range is average, but the menu system and other functions are very nice. Why the engineers that designed this phone ever released it for sale with the amount of background hiss and electronic hash you can hear in the earpiece is a mystery to me. It's not just the phone I got either, I've tried two of the model 2440's and two of the 2455's, and they ALL had the same annoying hiss. Stay clear of this phone, they need to re-design it to eliminate the hiss you can hear in the earpiece. I can't have a conversation for more than 10 minutes before the noise level starts to give me a headache. I tried to like it, I just couldn't overcome all that noise. I'm going to revert back to using my 5 year old Sanyo 900Mhz phone, at least the earpiece on it is silent. Unless you can't hear hiss or high frequency hash, or that constant noise in your ear doesn't bother you, DON'T buy this phone!!

Beautiful but unusable,

This is a beautiful phone with a great feature set; unfortunately, the constant static between the handset and the base makes it unusable. I too had to return mine.

Not Happy,

Got the phone 4 months ago with a rebate ... . Should've saved my money. Feature set and construction is quite good, but actual operation is unreliable. Caller ID function is sporadic-- most times I have to check my $35 corded phone to see CallerID information since the ATT LCD is blank. Although range is good (I've got a decent signal 10 floors down outside with little obstruction), it now cuts-out quite often, leaving you scrambling for another phone in the middle of a call. No problems with the answering machine. Overall, my suggestion is look elsewhere for a phone. In fact, this is the second ATT cordless I've owned in the past two years, both of which have had significant problems. I thought ATT made good stuff -- now I wonder.
