Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

The E580-1 is a 5.8 GHz cordless accessory handset designed for use with AT&T's E5860, E5865, E5900B, and E5965C expandable phone systems (required, sold separately). These base systems accommodate up to eight handsets, giving you the flexibility to place an extension wherever you need one, without an additional phone jack. By utilizing the 5.8 GHz signal and employing frequency-hopping digital spread spectrum technology, the E580-1 offers clearer reception and at greater distances than traditional 2.4 GHz or 900 MHz models.

With just one phone jack, the system supports
up to eight extensions throughout your home,
depending on your base model.

Caller ID and call waiting compatible, the E580-1 has a 50-number caller ID memory, as well as image ID and personalized ringer options. The LCD with graphical display has an icon-driven menu to help you navigate the phone's functions, while a 50-number internal phone directory helps you to keep track of all your important phone numbers. Vibrating ringer and polyphonic musical ring tone settings are available.

A handset speakerphone and headset compatibility provide hands-free communication methods. You can retrieve messages from the base unit using the handset, while the intercom feature allows you to speak to other handset locations. With conferencing, you can speak to multiple parties at the same time, and a call transfer function lets you route incoming calls to another handset.

An illuminated keypad is provided for ease of dialing, and a low battery indicator lets you know when to return the base to its handset for recharging. Flash, hold, mute, and redial (last 10) buttons are also provided. The E580-1 comes backed by a one-year warranty.

What's in the Box
Cordless handset, remote charger stand, AC power adapter, two AA NiMH batteries, belt clip, user's manual

3.0 out of 5 stars Mixed Results, August 22, 2005

This review is from: AT&T E580-1 5.8GHZ Accessory Handset for AT&T E5000-Series Expandable Phones (Office Product)
I bought four of these phones to go with my base unit. Three worked fine; the last did not. It charged up like the others but then began shorting out, making it useless. If I removed the batteries and immediately replaced them it worked fine for a while, but the problem returned. I also tried fresh batteries, being sure to use the kind required. The phone also seemed hot to the touch when it shorted out, a scary thing to me.

I ended up buying a replacement for the defective phone elsewhere (sorry Amazon.)

Amazon took the clunker back for a full refund, including my shipping charge. The warranty provider for the phone (not AT&T - another company working for them) told me to ship it back for a credit. I would give Amazon 5 stars for their customer service.

Despite my concern with the one bad phone, I now have four functional phones and a base unit working in harmony. They do not seem to interfere with our home wireless network.

I have owned this phone for 3 years and have had absolutely no problems. The reception is always great and you can hear everything crystal clear. I am just adding a couple more expansion phones because we moved to a larger house. I couldn't be happier with this phone and I researched all the reviews before buying this system and I wasn't let down by all the positive reviews.

4.0 out of 5 stars Solid phone when it works, buy through Amazon, August 26, 2006

I now have three of these extra handsets working in addition to my base phone. However, 2 of them cut out on me and had to be replaced. The screen just went blank. I replaced with the recommended new batteries but no luck. Now I have extra batteries.

Amazon was very easy to deal with and replaced the phones at no charge. So I only lost time - which is not why I bought these phones from AT&T and Amazon in the first place! The new ones work great so I'm staying with them.

The phone is solidly put together, buttons easy to use - handsets easy to add and work everywhere - in the basement - and way out in the yard. Good sound, easy to hear. Also like that they take up very little desk space.

Answering machine is intuitive (has only one voice mailbox.) We don't use many more of the features - although the kids like to change the picture that is displayed and various built-in ringers.

Again the reliability of the display may be it's biggest flaw (also had a problem with the color display model that came with the base phone.)
