I bought four of these phones to go with my base unit. Three worked fine; the last did not. It charged up like the others but then began shorting out, making it useless. If I removed the batteries and immediately replaced them it worked fine for a while, but the problem returned. I also tried fresh batteries, being sure to use the kind required. The phone also seemed hot to the touch when it shorted out, a scary thing to me.I ended up buying a replacement for the defective phone elsewhere (sorry Amazon.) Amazon took the clunker back for a full refund, including my shipping charge. The warranty provider for the phone (not AT&T - another company working for them) told me to ship it back for a credit. I would give Amazon 5 stars for their customer service. Despite my concern with the one bad phone, I now have four functional phones and a base unit working in harmony. They do not seem to interfere with our home wireless network.

I have owned this phone for 3 years and have had absolutely no problems. The reception is always great and you can hear everything crystal clear. I am just adding a couple more expansion phones because we moved to a larger house. I couldn't be happier with this phone and I researched all the reviews before buying this system and I wasn't let down by all the positive reviews.

Solid phone when it works, buy through Amazon,

I now have three of these extra handsets working in addition to my base phone. However, 2 of them cut out on me and had to be replaced. The screen just went blank. I replaced with the recommended new batteries but no luck. Now I have extra batteries.Amazon was very easy to deal with and replaced the phones at no charge. So I only lost time - which is not why I bought these phones from AT&T and Amazon in the first place! The new ones work great so I'm staying with them. The phone is solidly put together, buttons easy to use - handsets easy to add and work everywhere - in the basement - and way out in the yard. Good sound, easy to hear. Also like that they take up very little desk space. Answering machine is intuitive (has only one voice mailbox.) We don't use many more of the features - although the kids like to change the picture that is displayed and various built-in ringers. Again the reliability of the display may be it's biggest flaw (also had a problem with the color display model that came with the base phone.)

Stone cold dies, but when it works, it's great.,

Here's the trick: when it dies, charge the batteries in a different NiMH battery charger. You'll be good for another week or two, and then it will die again, and you'll repeat the process. Nice, eh? Not really. I love these phones when they work, especially the intercom feature, but something is really wrong inside to make them die like that with no warning.

I purchased this phone at the end of July and in early October it died. Stone cold dead. In the middle of a phone call. It's too late to return it to Amazon and I'm not optimistic about getting a replacement from AT&T.

This review is from: AT&T E580-1 5.8GHZ Accessory Handset for AT&T E5000-Series Expandable Phones (Office Product)
I initially purchased 3 phones, all worked fine for just over a year. I just began having problems with one phone, which brings me here to Amazon to search for another. Interestingly enough, I see another reviewer had the exact same problem I have... The phone just randomly shuts off. I can remove and replace the batteries and it will work fine for an hour, a day, or 5 minutes. Phone has only been adult handled, never dropped, etc...Up until this point, I would have given these phones 4.5 stars... but I cannot recommend anything which has a history of failure. Instead of replacing the phone, I am now replacing the entire system (answering machine and three phones) and AT&T (Vtech is the actual manufacturer of the phone, but AT&T branded) will not have any future business.

Is by far the best phone I have owned. This purchase was a 3rd and 4th phone for my expandable system which I have been using for the past 2 years. This phone wins hands down over my previous Sony, V-tech, Bell, and Panasonic models. Easy to use and lots of options.

This is exactly the same phone I ordered from AT&T at about half the price. I am very happy with it and the quick delivery.

These phone are the best, except the glass part in front that you read thought scraches really easy and before long you can no longer read whose is calling, this needs to be a harder plastic or glass.
