The BEST cordless phone system available!,
This review is from: AT&T E5925B 5.8 GHz DSS Cordless Phone with Dual Handsets and Answering System (Black) (Office Product)
I currently own the 2.4GHz version of this phone (AT&T 2725B silver) but the features are the exact same as this 5.8GHz model. This 5.8GHz model gives better range for bigger homes, and it is expandable just like the other model. However, the 2.4GHz is adequate for use in a WiFi home. Below is the review I wrote for my 2.4GHz model, but rest assured I have used the 5.8GHz and it is the same except for the range...
_______________________________________________________________ "I received this phone as a gift after my GE 900MHz died during its first year. I owned an AT&T cordless phone for about ten years, and I only paid about $50 for it at the time. Once it was time for a new one I quickly bought the GE 900MHz since it was cheap and I was in a hurry. What a mistake! Like I said, this phone was a gift since it was known I was desperately looking for another reliable phone. I am extremely happy with this cordless phone and answering system! AT&T is a VERY reliable brand and stands by their products. I'll run through some of the main features to help you with your decision. Cell Phone-like design: These phones are small in design but not too small for someone with vision problems. Similar to cell phones, these phones feature green and red buttons with phone icons on them for the "on" and "off" which are also labled. Smart directory: Also similar to cell phones, these phones feature a revolutionary smart directory. You can store names and numbers which are automatically alphabetized for quick dialing. Another nice perk is that once you add numbers to the phone book, the name you enter for a number is how it will be displayed on Caller ID when that person calls. For example, if you enter Samantha for 555-555-5555 in the directory, it will show up as... Samantha 555-555-5555 instead of Doe, Samantha or whatever else. It is necessary to include the area codes in the numbers if you wish to take advantage of this feature, even for local numbers, and you can dial the area code with local numbers without any problems or extra charges to your phone bill. This directory is stored in the base unit, so both handsets share the information without having to enter numbers into both phones. Speakerphone: Both handsets have fully functional speakerphones which are very convenient and sacrifice nothing with regards to quality of sound. Digital Answering System: This is once of the easiest answering systems to set up and use. The systems will announce choices in the menu and the display will show you whether the option is currently selected as "on" or "off." Remote access also comes standard. Extra handset: The extra handset only requires a standard AC outlet without having to be plugged into a phone line. This was a great feature for me, since I didn't care where the base unit was but wanted total freedom as to where the extra handset was located. This freedom is great! Total convenience! I'm sure there are many more features about this phone that I love, but these are the ones that come to mind the most. If you have been looking for a great phone and don't want to settle, this is the one for you. The price is definitely well worth it!"

The first cordless phones we've had that you do not hear a buzz while you're talking. The "find handset" button actually keeps beeping until you find the handset, so that it doesn't take 2 people. The phone shape is too difficult to hold between your ear and shoulder, but my chiropractor says you shouldn't do that anyway.

I've purchaseed two At&T phone systems. In both cases, in a little over one year of use the batteries needed to be replaced, which may be reasonable considering the heavy use the phones got. However, what I do not feel is reasonable is that in both cases I was unable to purchase a replacement battery from the store where I made the purchase(Target), or any other retailer selling phone batteries in Minneapolis. The modelshad been "discontinued" and the replacement batteries were available only from AT&T at a cost of aboout $20.00 each, plus a shipping cost of $12.00. In both cases AT&T was still making and selling a very similiar phone (cordless, two handset 2.4 GHZ system), but the battery was not compatable.

Poor reception poor wall mount,

I choose ATT due to my experience with good solid equipment. However this unit did not measure up.
1. Reception was worse that my old ATT 2.8 ghz I don't understand why. 2. Wall mount is poorly engineered. Thin plastic mount does not place unit flush with wall, rather it extends away from the wall leaving it prone to being bumped and causing it to tear from wall. Other than that, I cannot see paying almost $100 for a compromised phone.

Good phone for a good price,

We've had problems with other cordless phones, but so far this one has none of them. Interference from the microwave, disconnecting and losing their charge if you set them down at all ungently, random static issues (probably from EMI or RFI). That's how our old phone was. This one works great. The only thing that's at all annoying is that everytime I pick up the handset, I hit the volume button - it's just in the wrong place, but that's not a big deal as it's simple to adjust.

Great Phone,
This review is from: AT&T E5925B 5.8 GHz DSS Cordless Phone with Dual Handsets and Answering System (Black) (Office Product)
I really like this phone and I've been pretty hard to please when it comes to other cordless models. I'd all but given up on anything cordless thinking my house was just incompatible with the current technology. This system changed my mind. I have to agree with the previous review about the battery issue, however. Mine lasted about 18 months and then I had to search for replacements. It was a pain in the neck, but I like the phone and really wanted to keep it. Finally I found a number of battery suppliers on EBAY selling replacements for under six dollars. I've bookmarked those sellers and I'm happily keeping this phone.

There's a reason it's this cheap. It's just not a great phone. Not a lot of thought went into its design. For example, it has caller ID and you can scroll through the numbers. But you can't actually call them. Because the phone doesn't realize that most people have to use a 1 when dialing any area code now. Even my previous phone did that.

I've had these phones for two years or so, and no major problems. Just occasional glitches that seem to resolve quickly

The telephone and answering system have all the features we could ever want. However, the day of the week would not advance (always on Tuesday for example). Homeand beyond was extremely helpful and we are about to receive a replacement. I highly recommend homeandbeyond.
