A corded telephone with some useful extra features, the AT&T 959 is a perfect addition to the small home office. You can mount the unit on a wall or place it on your desk, depending upon your needs, while a built-in speakerphone allows you convenient, hands-free communication. The 959 is caller ID and call waiting compatible and features a 65-number caller ID memory. A built-in phone directory helps you to keep track of your most important contacts, storing up to 25 numbers in its internal memory. Fourteen one-touch locations provide additional space to store and easily dial the most frequently used numbers.

The LCD on the base provides access to the phone directory and caller ID lists. Menus access features and can be set to one of three menu languages (English, French, or Spanish). A data port on the back of the phone allows you to connect peripherals such as a fax machine or computer modem without having to plug and unplug the phone. You can adjust handset, ringer, and speakerphone volumes, as well as mute your end of the conversation. The 959 has an 8.8-by-8-inch footprint and weighs 1.87 pounds. It also comes backed with a one-year limited warranty.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Phone, Many Features, February 5, 2005

This review is from: AT&T 959 Speakerphone with Caller ID (White/Mist) (Office Product)
If you need a phone that does not require an AC wall plug, this is probably what you need. The description does not give the features, so here goes:

It has Caller ID and if you have the service, Call Waiting ID.

It has a 14 number quick dial, and a 25 number stored directory dial.

You can store numbers from the Caller ID right into quick dial or the directory.

You can redial numbers directly from the caller ID screen with the push of one button.

It has a speakerphone, with mute, and volume control for the speaker phone.

It has a hold button.

All of the buttons are large enough that you don't feel like you're pecking at microdots.

It is easily wall or desk mounted.

The LCD screen is very visible, and can be adjusted for contrast.

You have a choice of English, Spanish or French for the language.

You can program in area codes if you have to always dial 10 numbers to make a call (I think this is called layering or somesuch by the phone companies).

All in all, a lot of quality for a very reasonable price.

Audio quality seems good, and I am a little hard of hearing in one ear, but there is no problem with this phone in that regard.

It does require 4 AA batteries which are not included, but to be honest the batteries that get included with items are garbage anyway so you'd want to use quality batteries.

If you need a corded phone, which you should have in the event of a power failure (your cordless phones will not work without AC power but phones plugged into a regular phone wall jack will work if the wires are not down), then this is going to be the phone for you.

Go ahead, spend the money, you'll get a good quality phone.

2.0 out of 5 stars Speaker OK for listening but not talking, January 26, 2006
This review is from: AT&T 959 Speakerphone with Caller ID (White/Mist) (Office Product)
It's ok if you want to listen to your voice mail or when you're on perpetual hold but you cannot carry on a conversation because the microphone doesn't work. The only reason I gave it 2 stars was because you can listen which is good for something.

4.0 out of 5 stars great phone, August 18, 2005
This review is from: AT&T 959 Speakerphone with Caller ID (White/Mist) (Office Product)
Nice phone. Large buttons. Easy to program. Loud ringer.
Speakerphone not as loud as it could be, other than that it is well worth the money.
