It seems like forever ago that I first heard this CD, my Papa had gotten it with his truck when I was a child. I loved it, thought that it was great current artists were not butchering classics. I eventually absorbed the CD into my collection which was stolen along with my car 8 years ago. I couldn't remember the actual title of the CD, and finally a couple months ago it came to me to search "AT & T presents" on Amazon where I can find just about anything and there it was. My Papa was also glad to have a copy of this CD again. I highly recommend it as Joni Mitchell, Gwen Stefani, and Stevie Nicks particularly shine. There is a little gem from Sandra Berhardt and Bjork, respectively as well.

I agree - classic songs with new twist by A-list musicians,

I agree with the consensus here. I had no idea some of these singers did a classic jazz album. Classic bluesy jazz by Trisha Yearwood? Sounds odd, but it was simply brilliant. And of course, Natalie Cole and Joni Mitchell are genius as usual ... but Stevie Nicks was amazing singing the classic "At Last". And Bjork gave her own special twist to "Gloomy Sunday".
This would definitely be a great gift idea for the jazz aficionado. Don't be to impressed with the packaging - the artwork is bland, and there are no inserts. But the contents are a must for any jazz fan. The complete track listing includes: 1. Almost Blue: Gwen Stefani 2. You've Changed: Paula Cole 3. But Beautiful: Shawn Colvin 4, Good Guy: Trisha Yearwood 5. Is That All There Is?: Sandra Bernhard 6. Good Morning Heartache: Sheryl Crow 7. They Can't Take That Away from Me: Natalie Cole 8. At Last: Stevie Nicks 9. Gloomy Sunday: Bjork 10. Stormy Weather: Joni Mitchell

A Shimmering Gem,

I've got an extensive collection of CDs spanning multiple genres that I've ripped to my computer. This is the first CD that I deliberately used lossless compression on, because I didn't want to miss any subaudible bit on this masterwork of musical genius!
Besides kudos to the artists and everyone involved in this production, I have to give a marketing genius award to AT&T here. There is nothing in the history of free giveaways through the mail that matches this, at least in my experience. It was free as the AT&T Worldnet software was squeezed into a small space on the same CD. I will never part with mine. Contrast that with how many billions of America Online CDs have ended up in landfills. So, this CD represents environmental genius as well! Completely unexpected, this CD blew me away from the first time I listened to it. 5 stars.

A good concept and well-executed. But for me personally, the variety is just little too wide-ranging. About half the renditions don't really jazz me... seem a bit 'screechy'... as many modern female singers are prone to be. But there is some stuff I like as well. You pays your money and you takes your choice on this one.

THESE GALS CAN SING ! But rather than go on with another 5 star review on how grand each song, and performer is... I thought I'd mention the CD itself. It was sent out as a promotional item from AT&T, for free. That's right back in the day before the cell phone boom, you had to choose your long distance carrier; Sprint, or MCI, or in this case AT&T. The envelpoe was not any special and it looked kind of like some sort of bulk mail advertisement.
If fact I wouldn't be surprised if some people threw them out without even opening them. That's why it's so hard to find a "new one", in most cases you had to open it to see what it was. Unless your friend had AT&T also and already had opened their mail, and they told you to be on the look out for it. Or, in my case I had two lines, so I got two CD's & only opened one, etc. I hope that explains why this CD is so very hard to find new & unopened but even if you have to get one used, you won't be disapointed, this is an awesome CD ! Have Fun, ACE

This is an amazing collection of torch songs. Not a dud in the bunch. Even Bjork "fingernails on a blackbord" Bjork sounds good. The orchestral arrangements are perfect, and the singers step outside of their comfort zone to turn in one stunning live performance after another. Sandra Bernhard takes Peggy Lee's "Is that all there is?" and hits it a mile out of the ballpark. Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller wrote this song with her in mind in 1968, if only they knew it. And did I mention that even Bjork sounds good?

Wonderful, hard-to-find collection of Gwen Stafani, Bjork, Sheryl Crow (whom I normally dislike), Stevie Nicks, Sarah Bernhard and even Joni Mitchell covering American Pop Standards. The theme is love and loss. A live album, recorded at the Hollywood Bowl (I think?), with gorgeous orchestration that plays up the dark, almost Film Noir-esque themes of lost love and heartache.
