Editorial Reviews

About the Artist

C/A/T [pronounced 'cat', like the animal] began in the late 1990s as a purely experimental project ran solely by Crunch Pod label founder, Ben Arp. The events of 09/11/01 led C/A/T to research and record for 3 years, finally settling on the 4 tracks that found their way onto the WTC EP which was released in late 2004. Arp continued on the conspiratorial bent and infused more minimal rhythms to the sound when he approached the 2005 full length release 'The Prisoner'. Based on the television program of the same name, C/A/T took the aesthetic of The Village and updated it to parallel current events some 35+ years after the show's creation. "The Prisoner" built up a more live performance friendly sound, and thusly C/A/T began to play out more, performing with acts like Manufactura, Caustic, Exclipsect and Savak vs. Zymosiz and being featured in the 2005 edition of the Providence Industrial Festival in Providence, Rhode Island. In the summer of 2005, Arp completely changed the focus of the C/A/T project... and in doing so, added a live member, Kat [no relation to the C/A/T name] and turned towards a more traditional and club friendly sound. These recordings were showcased on "The Rogue Pair" a 12 track CD, 8 original tracks and 4 remixes from Terrorfakt, Manufactura, Caustic and Endif. With tracks like 'Enhancer' and 'A Line In The Sand', C/A/T began to gather more attention on both radio and club playlists. Higher profile live opportunities also began to arise as C/A/T was booked to play alongside such acts as Cervello Elettronico, HMB, Architect, the Combichrist DJ tour and was tapped to perform at the 2006 Reverence Festival in Madison, Wisconsin... along with acts like God Module, Stromkern, Android Lust, Caustic and Null Device to name a few. Summer 2006 finds C/A/T releasing an 8 track, limited edition [666 copies] CD-EP on June 6th, 2006 called ATF. This features alternate versions of tracks like 'Enhancer' and 'A Line In The Sand', remixes from Caustic and Terrorfakt, and 3 brand new original tracks. The next full length album is set to be released in late 2006 and will feature yet another exciting evolution in C/A/T's sound. Also anticipated for early 2007 are even more performances from C/A/T across the globe!

Product Description

C/A/T returns with an EP called "ATF" after the highly successful 'The Rogue Pair' release from late 2005. Even more geared towards the dance floor than 'The Rogue Pair', 'ATF' features exclusive remixes from Terrorfakt [a mix of "Enemy Within"] and Caustic [a booty-shaking mix of "Enhancer"]. C/A/T supplies alternate takes of "Enhancer" and "A Line In The Sand" and rounds things out with 2 brand new tracks + a link to a bunch of free online extras. Originally, the intent was not to release anything between "The Rogue Pair" and the next full album, "A Warning To All" but due to the success of "The Rogue Pair" and some great tracks not fitting thematically with the next album, C/A/T decided to deliver this EP on June 6th, 2006 [the ever intriguing 06/06/06 date] and limit this release strictly to 666 hand-numbered copies on CD format.

5.0 out of 5 stars Silly Fun Content, Great & Dance Friendly Music, June 26, 2006
By
This review is from: ATF (Audio CD)
About the Band:

C/A/T, simply pronounced cat, is a power noise band that was originally a vehicle for founder Ben Arp to express some of his political feelings. With the addition of Kat Clarke to the band with the release of the Rogue Pair, C/A/T took a turn away from the more serious political content of their first two albums, Worldwide Totalitarian Control and the Prisoner, and have evolved to a much more humorous and dance friendly sound that has helped C/A/T become a club favorite in many US West Coast industrial night clubs.

About the Album:

Continuing in the direction of the Rogue Pair, the limited edition ATF EP is pure fun. With the exception of the instrumental track A Line in the Sand [One Step Over Mix], the remaining tracks are a blend of fast paced, heavy hitting, dance friendly electronics with various audio samples sparingly added to the music. Half of the album includes new remixes of songs from the Rogue Pair (and C/A/T's sideproject Disclosure) and the other half teases us with a sample of what we can look forward to with C/A/T's new full length release. After listening to the album, it should be clear that ATF stands for "Alcohol", something (hint listen to Enhancer), and something else.

Recommended Tracks:

- [We Make] Music to Piss You Off

- Enhancer [Triple D Club Mix by Caustic]

- Enemy Within [Terrorfakt]

My favorite track is [We Make] Music to Piss You Off as it is not only fun to dance too, but it really echoes a sort of carefree approach to music and art that I believe in - the idea that music should be personal and it other people shouldn't let other people's opinions bother them. I also really enjoy the last bonus track, The Prisoner (Live and Loathing in Las Vegas).

The amazon.com warning about explicit lyrics is most likely due to the subject matter of the two Enhancer remixes. As I pointed out with the C/A/T's previous album, the Rogue Pair, the lyrics of those tracks are honestly not much different than anything you might see on TV shows such as South Park, Family Guy, or Drawn Together - the soundtracks for the first two series also share the same warning.
