high-end performance with a modest investment,

This review is from: ATI Radeon 7000 64 MB DDR PCI Video Card (100430284CCS) (Personal Computers)
-The card brings its own software including a DVD player, plus audio and video applications for all versions of Windows including 2000 and XP. While the bundled software is not top-notch, it sure brings an immediate way to test your hardware. Performance-wise, this card passed all tests with flying colors. I tested it successfully with Lucas Arts'StarWars Star Fighter, Microsoft's Dungeon Siege, and some emulation applications that required 3d accelerators. MPEG playback improved notably using Windows Media player. Also, overall Windows navigation is now much smoother and with fewer delays, especially when using my clogged Start Menu. DVD playback works beautifully and with ATI's integrated decoder I am in no need to have my old Creative decoder card. In my case, due to technical issues, I had to perform some degree of tweaking and updating. The included user guide is a plain generic installation manual that is not specific to your card model, so if you happen to have a problem, you will not find the answer there; the manual assumes that everything goes fine and dandy from the get go. On the other hand, their web site was very helpful, and I was able to download the latest software and resolve all my issues. Overall, I'm very impressed with this video card. It has given my two-year "old" PC a nice "face-lift" and maybe an additional couple of years of 3d gaming. Good purchase.

I got this card for christmas last year and im very happy with it. I play Half-Life and mods for it and they all run very good. This card is cheap and well worth it. If you want to upgrade a older 16mb card i would get this.

...There is only one place that you can get really caught in with XP and integrated graphics: the manual for the video card states that before you physically install the card, uninstall the old drivers. After you put in the Radeon 7000, you will then install the drivers. Well, XP will automatically install the old drivers for the integrated card, and you can do s**t about that, so when you are done with installing the new drivers, it will ask if you want to restart the computer now or later. Do LATER. Then re-uninstall the old drivers and DISABLE the old card. Now restart and you're set.

Great for the price,

I have a Dell 2300 and installed it myself. If you have a built in on-board video card (intel graphics card) you have to disable it and uninstall the driver to get it to work.People who did not like the Radeon 7000, did not know how to install it. Here is the down and dirty for the novice computer users. The Graphics are great...

I upgraded to this card from an 8mb Savage card and wow! What a difference! Installation went very smooth and with no problems. I noticed the difference in video quality right away. Smoother effects in my games and online animation. I am very happy and impressed with this card. Especially with the price. Thank you ATI for a great product.

Great card for mid-level users w/out AGP,

This is an excellent card. When I first purchased it, I read some reviews about what a nightmare it was to install on Windows XP. I have a Gateway with onboard video and all I did was disable the onboard video, pop the card in and install the drivers from CD and had absolutely no problems. the card is stable and provides excellent 3d and 2d video for the price. If you are a mid-level user without any AGP slots, I highly recommend this card as it is probably the best you are going to get from PCI Bus

This is quite possibly the best alternative for users without AGP slots. I was impressed with it's compatibility with every application I own that runs either OpenGL or DirectX. The built in processor unit is also impressive.A must have for anyone without AGP.

Doesn't work with HP Pavilion 8660c,

If you have a HP Pavilion 8660c, do not buy this item. Even after help from HP tech support, they could not make it work. The problem is that the motherboard has onboard graphics that cannot be disabled in the BIOS. The Radeon card will not be picked up by the PC after you put it in. ATI support told me on the phone to buy another graphic card!

Yes people say that this product is all good and everything, but if you have an XE793 HP Pavilion or any computer with onboard graphics (Graphics build in the motherboard)maybe you should consider looking for more information on this product. If you go to ati's site and click at one of the small grey lettered links called "i need help with" then on "installing issues" then look for some of the issues with ATI Radeon 7000 you'll see that this product is sometimes hard to install with these kinds or computers. I'm not trying to keep you from buying this product i'm just trying to save you from disapointment if you have these computers.
