5.0 out of 5 stars Great card..just needs a good owner
Bought this card about 4-5 months ago and I have to say it's an amazing card you just need to know how to gain its full potential. The drivers supplied are to say the least OUT OF DATE! When I first got this card I was blown away by it's power, price, and graphics. However there is a catch. Many new games require different cards, and do not support the 9200. I have now found 3 games that work on almost every ATI Radeon card (9000 and up) except this one. I now have to buy another card to support those games (Splinter Cell, Lord of the Rings, and The...

This review is from: ATI Technologies Radeon 9200 128MB Video Graphics Card (Personal Computers)
Bought this card about 4-5 months ago and I have to say it's an amazing card you just need to know how to gain its full potential. The drivers supplied are to say the least OUT OF DATE! Go directly to http://www.guru3d.com and get the latest ATI omega drivers these are fine tweaked to a higher spec than any made by ATI and also allow you to overclock your card. I overclocked mine to almost 300mhz core and 250mhz mem now I can play Half Life 2 (All settings on high no jumping or stuttering) and Doom 3 on High with no side effects. Now for the money this card is a bargain just dont give up on it at face value. It is a nifty little card that can compete with cards 10x it's price it has all latest features (2004/05). I couldnt recommend this card more. Also omega drivers are compatible for all ATI cards so the graphics are getting faster and smoother every month.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best I've had, November 16, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: ATI Technologies Radeon 9200 128MB Video Graphics Card (Personal Computers)
I just purchased this card 2 weeks ago. It's is the best AGP 8x 128Mb graphics card I've had, and it can handle all the 3D games I have. Since it's manufactured by ATI you don't have to worry about getting a bad product, there's no problem with warranty, and you get ATI Catalyst software. It comes in good on the TV, but like all cards, when it's plugged into a TV, it's going to be hard to read whats on the screen. On the TV, it still comes in really good when playing games. I recommed this for gamers who don't have a lot of money to spend on cards

5.0 out of 5 stars Works Great!, March 8, 2005
This review is from: ATI Technologies Radeon 9200 128MB Video Graphics Card (Personal Computers)
I bought this a week ago because I was itching to play Doom 3, and it worked! I'm not really a hardcore gamer, but it met all my expectations. It runs all of my favorite games, old and new, quite efficiently. If you're one of the people with a 64 megabyte card who wants to upgrade, this is the card for you, unless you want to pay obscene amounts of money for a 256 meg card. And don't get an NVIDIA, they have severe I/O problems. Its much more worth you money if you get this, or any other ATI model.

When I first got this card I was blown away by it's power, price, and graphics. However there is a catch. Many new games require different cards, and do not support the 9200. I have now found 3 games that work on almost every ATI Radeon card (9000 and up) except this one. I now have to buy another card to support those games (Splinter Cell, Lord of the Rings, and The Matrix). If you are a serious PC gamer DO NOT BUY THIS CARD. However if you don't play to many high end games this card is good for you.

Ok, enough about games. This card is pretty good when it comes to overall display. The one thing missing is that it doesn't have a digital monitor jack, so you wouldn't be able to experiance the best display of your new $500 flat-screen monitor. Hope this review helps you! :)

This is a good basic add on card for any P.C. going from 64 mb card to 128 mb is a HUGE inprovement. Firstly, this is a card that will operate well in Windows ME and Xp, only a few can do that ( without a lot of brain pain)!! Some on the high power games run a little slow just tried Halo and in the intro ran a little slow but through mid game ran just fine. Very easy to install and run, excellent software loaded and executed on the first try!!! So for a reasonable price unless your into the super games you can add a good card, if you want the 256mb be prepared to shell out $$$$$$$. ( It runs all of our son's Star Wars very well/ all of AOE without a hitch)

3.0 out of 5 stars An OK 3D Card, but its time is through..., February 8, 2006
This review is from: ATI Technologies Radeon 9200 128MB Video Graphics Card (Personal Computers)
Since 2001 I have had an ATI Radeon 9200 3D Card installed in my computer. For a while the card performed very nicely, although I had a massive problem with the Drivers when we first bought our machine. It handled almost every game well for the period of 2001 - 2003, but after that, things slowly began to sink.

Perhaps it started when I purchased "Doom 3" for my PC. I was significantly over the minimum requirements for the game to run, but I noticed a few things. On 800 X 600 Resolution, I had a slightly fragmented frame-rate. Also, characters had a distinct shadow on one side of their face while the other was stark and bright - it looked ridiculous. And when I encountered areas with alot of detail and animation, the Game stuttered like a nervous wreck. In short, although I played "Doom 3" and finished it, my experience was marred by average Graphics Card (and CPU) performance.

In 2005 I bought "Far Cry," another 2004 game. The game insisted on defaulting my system specs to the lowest settings, although I had a 2.4 GHz Processor (the minimum is 1 Ghz) and a 128 MB 3D Card with 768 MB of RAM. So I began to play - and then I encountered my next problem. When a vehicle appeared on screen or I attempted to drive a vehicle, the game would periodically freeze. This problem drove me mad for a day. I then decided to update my drivers, but ATI didn't have any 3D Card Drivers readily available for download. I then proceeded to download a generic driver from Microsoft, and luckily that fixed the main problem - great! But I then discovered that at high (and even medium!) texture settings, some parts of the landscape would appear totally luminous green or dark navy blue - not condusive to gaming pleasure! I then eventually found the official 3D Card driver software updates and luckily it corrected this problem. However, I still experienced the occasional bout of poor framerates and game crashes.

I am now proceeding to upgrade my PC to a GeForce 6600 128 MB PCI 3D Card. I am just tired of both my now somewhat obsolete Processor (which caused some of the poor framerates and crashes no doubt) and Radeon 128 MB 3D Card. Back in its day, this card was pretty hot. But now it's kinda like the John Smith of 3D Cards. The average Joe, or whatever you want to call it. I agree with the reviewer that said that ATI has poor customer services - they don't really give you the impression that they care much about you. Another thing I'd like to add is that with the newer drivers for the 3D Card, I experienced some very annoying problems regarding video playback. Of all things in this world, video playback!

I've just had it with the endless torrents of garbage this Card is giving me. And it will undoubtedly get worse as the years go by. If you're buying a New PC, buy PCI Hardware and look elsewhere. If you really need a 3D Card, this one isn't terrible. It can do its job, but only up to a point. I would personally recommend PCI Express Cards for new and current buyers. AGP Hardware is dissipating fast and down here in SA it's nearly been outsourced. It's cheaper to buy a new motherboard, good CPU, some extra RAM and a PCI Express 3D Card than to buy a top-of-the-range AGP Card.

I say, don't even consider buying this Card. If you have one, I recommend you upgrade soon or get left in the dust. PCI just makes more sense. I have had my say, and now, you must make your choice...but just please, take heed of my words before you purchase...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Performance - but has Cold Boot Problems, October 18, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: ATI Technologies Radeon 9200 128MB Video Graphics Card (Personal Computers)
My computer is a three-year-old Dell P3 800 MHz 256 MB. I replaced my GeForce-2 32 MB video card with the ATI Radeon 9200 128 MB card with the hopes that game performance would improve. Sadly, I did not see a marked improvement in game performance. Apparently, performance (i.e., frame rate and available effects) is limited by the computer's P3 800 MHz CPU and 133 MHz memory. It would seem then, that you will NOT see an improvement in your computer with this video card if you are running a sub-1 MHz computer.

Even though I did not see an improvement in video performance, my computer experienced none of the video problems that a previous reviewer observed. The display is very crisp and the colors are great.

Installation of the new card is very easy. Just make sure that you un-install the drivers of your old video card before you install the new card. This is very, very important - otherwise, you will experience all kinds of problems. Also, it is best to update all of your chip drivers prior to installing the new card.

Now here is my biggest problem with this card: Although the card works great once the computer is running, my computer had serious problems cold booting after this card was installed. In other words, if the computer had been turned off for more than a few hours, it would not boot (in one try) when started up. Most of the time, it stops near the beginning of the boot cycle and never energizes the monitor. Sometimes, the monitor will energize, but then booting stops before the Windows desk top is displayed. Sometimes, I had to reset my computer (with the RESET button) six or seven times before it would successfully boot. The problem seems to get worse the longer the computer is turned off. This indicates to me that it might be a capacitor problem (faulty capacitor or bad solder) or maybe my power supply is inadequate. Anyway, once the computer boots (after 15 minutes or more of repeated attempts), the video card works great.

I have now pulled the Radeon 9200 card out of my computer and installed the original video card. Since then, I have had no booting problems (indicating the the Radeon 9200 was the sole problem).

By the way, I could find no information on this problem at the ATI web site. They obviously know (or SHOULD know) about this problem. If they were responsible folks, they would put a warning on the box.

In brief, this seems to be a great video card and a great price; however, if your computer is less than 1 GHz, or if your power supply is less than 300 watts, I would recommend that you live with your current video card until you can afford a new computer.

This review is from: ATI Technologies Radeon 9200 128MB Video Graphics Card (Personal Computers)
the worst graphics card ive owned or come across in terms of reliability. ive had this in my P4 machine since new (a long 2 years) and it crashes all the time due to overheating and othertimes dues to running programmes (not games) it just cant handle (ie memory map 3d map viewer, cubase, ableton live, often just webpages).
ive put a passive cooler on it and still about 3 or 4 times a week it just restarts the pc for no apparent reason. occasionally the pc has to be left off overnight to let it cooldown enough as it wont boot up at all after some crashes. finally im getting rid of this junk. avoid at all costs.

Handles a lot of video, but still can get choppy/stutter on rollercoasters and flight simulation. Did buy at a good price though. You get what you pay for.

5.0 out of 5 stars great card, June 18, 2003
This review is from: ATI Technologies Radeon 9200 128MB Video Graphics Card (Personal Computers)
this is a great video card. It has a normal video out plug for a monitor, along with an analog out and an s-video out. You can even hook it up to your tv! You can hook it up to your tv as the tv to A: extend your monitor, or B: show the same thing as your monitor. This can be good for people with emulators, so they can see it like they had a tv (get a controler, and its just like you had an SNES!) Also, the graphics on this thing arte awsome! I had some generic 32mb nVidia card that come with my computer, but i got sick of it, so i went out and bought this thing (the 128mb is worth it. Even 64. As long as its above 32mb) It has a long list of options i cant list here, but theyre there. Its fairly easy to hook it up to your tv, too. But text is pretty hard to read. Thats why you all should have an HDTV. HOWEVER if your not into gaming, dont bother with this card. itll have too much for you to care about. Happy gaming!
