5.0 out of 5 stars Great Game, November 17, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: ATV Offroad Fury 2 (Video Game)
Atv offroad fury 2 is one of the best games i have played. it is twice as good as the first one. You can do the freestyle and get some big big air, or you can do the racing which is also a lot of fun. I would give this two thumbs up! you might want to rent this before you buy it because if you do not like atvs you will have wasted 40 bucks when you just could have rented it. All in all great game!

5.0 out of 5 stars NOT WHAT I EXPECTED!!!!!!!!!!!, February 24, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: ATV Offroad Fury 2 (Video Game)
I thought this was going to be another excite bike (only atvs). But boy was i wrong.Your atv controls more like a very fast person rather than a care (play it to see it).The trick system is similiar to tony hawks pro skater/ssx tricky.Free ride is fun because the levels have very cool things and are unique. For example Arlington Stream has a train and water slide things.Rockbride Park has a bridge.

Now,the multiplayer is AWESOME.You can do basically everything from single player (Enduro races, freestyle,Race, etc.)And also has games.Tag,Hockey,King of the Hills, and Treasure Hunt.Tag is the best.

The ATVS are very realistic and look just like the real thing. Its pretty hard to unlock all of em.The gear is really cool too.

I suggest u buy this,i rented first.

3.0 out of 5 stars The Devil's in the Details, December 3, 2003
This review is from: ATV Offroad Fury 2 (Video Game)
This review is to expand on some common complaints about this game. Upgrading your atv, opening maps and a couple of personal gripes that apply. I'd guess most people who play this for the 1st time started in the amateur circuit races. After a little practice on individual races and freestyle, most should be able to conquer the 1st amatuer championship. The surprise comes when you start the next "amatuer" championship and you get doored immediately by the AI riders who have been able to far upgrade their atv's. You are required to waste TONS of time finding ways to build up profile points to purchase better equipment (ie: racing and freestyle events that don't count toward opening the locked maps). I personally don't have all day to do this especially when I buy a game just for the fun of racing.

My gripes are that the AI riders have the amazing ability to stay on their quads even when you land on top of them from 30ft in the air, yet if they even come within 5ft of you while they are, you are knocked unconcious, fly off your quad and suffer a crushed spine and severe head wounds. This deliberate glitch is especially annoying on the Final Lap within sight of the finish line(and when you only had enough time for one race).

The second is the "turbo boost" the AI's seem to have on their quads. When you fall short on a set of hills, the game hints that the best thing to do is come to a complete stop on top of one hill and get a running start at the next. Which is true. However, the AI's can do it easily from a complete stop near the base of any hill, on average.

I don't want to cheat to gain the advanced atv's and maps. But personally I think there's nothing more annoying than inconsistency in a $40 game. I think the developers should have saved all the software space it takes to create these problems and used it for an expanded soundtrack, more games(tag, hockey), more maps and "easter eggs"(things to look for) to make it more interesting once the basics are learned. Maybe a 2 disc set? Not unreasonable for all that money.

Other than these few little quirks, the game is overall very good. The maps, rider views(1st person is amazing!), music and structure of the game were very well thought out and designed. Maybe the 3 stars was a little harsh, but I think a little constructive criticism will get them to pump out an even better game soon! (or an even more advanced system? woohoo!)
