3.0 out of 5 stars Just a caveat
We really like our snow rake, but we must give some warning. We didn't know the avalanche snow rake existed until after a couple of snow storms, so we were behind to begin with. It readily removes the snow on the east and west facing roofs, but only removes the recent layers of snow on the one facing north, which is our biggest problem, because it valleys with the one...

I live in lake effect snow country here in upstate New York.
The Avalanche arrived today via UPS. After a few minutes of easy assembly, I was out tackling the roof. Had about 1 foot compacted snow on the roof. The roof is relatively steep pitch and it usually takes me about 25 minutes to remove snow with old style aluminum roof rake. I probably spent no more than 5 minutes and not only did it remove the snow easily, but it did a super neat job. This is one of those items that is really too good to be true. I'm going to rig up a gizmo to adapt my 12 foot aluminum swimming pool vacuum pole, so I can extend the Avalanche reach another 12 feet.
I'm also going to make a hand crank that will adapt to the nylock nuts on the threaded shaft so I can roll up the plastic sheet quickly.
What can I say.... Very pleased!

We really like our snow rake, but we must give some warning. We didn't know the avalanche snow rake existed until after a couple of snow storms, so we were behind to begin with. It readily removes the snow on the east and west facing roofs, but only removes the recent layers of snow on the one facing north, which is our biggest problem, because it valleys with the one facing west.

We were also rather 'vigorous' in trying to remove the old snow and we have found the pole has cracked where the head attaches. We were able to cut off the pole, drill new holes and reattach the head. One of the plastic wheels has also bored itself out, but still seems to work okay. Also, our flag is in tatters, but we are planning to make our own new one. I should mention that we have a metal roof, which is going to be hard on any plastic runner, so we don't think this is necessarily a design flaw.

We have figured out this product is meant to be used after each new snowfall and is not to be used for forceful removal. If used as intended, we think it's a great product and we hope to stay on top of it all next year!

We also think it's over-priced, but with no competition for this design of snow rake, your options are limited. One of the metal arms was not properly shaped and did not look right when it was assembled, this could have been an isolated flaw to our rake.

4.0 out of 5 stars BEST OUTDOOR TOY!, January 17, 2003
By A Customer

I am a single woman and a homeowner. My home is a single story Ranch style house. Ice and snow and Icedams are a common problem. I have tried other roof rake products and found it to be a very slow and heavy project, that I dreaded having to do. I have the Avalanche Model 300 and the work was easy and almost fun! You simply place the cutter frame on the edge of the roof and push up! The snow comes off the roof in big chunks. The plastic slide assists it in coming down quickly. I cleared off my entire roof front and back in less than an hour. My neighbors all came out to see my "new toy" and the Avalanche soon made the rounds of the neighborhood! I love mine! I was also impressed that as a woman this was not complicated and I am able to do the task by myself. The plastic slide does get some wear and tear so I would reccommend that people order an extra one to have on hand.

Hooray for me. I must have got the last one on Amazon. Just used it a few days ago. I am a 5'4 female and was able to handle it no problem. Now for the best-This REALLY does move large amounts of snow off the roof, fast, effecient and it does not fall on you. Goes right down the plastic. The first snow I tried it on was very wet and heavy. Will probable be a breeze w/the lighter stuff. I still can't believe it works as well as it does. Even if you can't find one on sale, Pay the 99.00 and rejoice.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unbelievable! This is a must have for snow country!, January 12, 2003

My father is 67 suffers many physical ailments which prompted him to purchase this product. He cleared his entire roof in less than 30 minutes! He's called twice raving about the ease of this product! Without a doubt worth every dollar spent and then some. Anyone living in snow country knows how costly hiring someone to clean your roof can be. His only regret with purchasing this was that he paid more than Amazon is selling it for right now with free shipping by purchasing is locally. The drawback he's faced with now is the neighbors all borrowing it~ . Highly reccomend this!

I am a 67 year old male who lives in the snow country of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Our snow fall has exceeded 195 inches to date and I have had to remove snow from the roofs of our home and garage twice. The Avalanche make this easy. However, I have a problem. I need to replace the plastic slide sheets on each of my avalanches (I own two) as they are badly torn because of excessive use. My avalanches are the true originals. The plastic slide sheets are 21 3/4 inches wide and I have had no success in finding replacements. I would appreciate any assistance I can get in locating slide sheets with this dimension. Other than this problem, the Avalanche is a wonderful snow removal tool.

I love the avalanche rake, it is so easy to use and the snow slides right off the roof. No more shoveling for hours. I live in NY where the winters are rough, last week we got over 5 feet of new snow in one week. The avalanche rake really made my life easier. Now I have more time for enjoying the snow. Thanks for a wonderful product.

I love products that exceed my expectations. The Avalanche roof rake makes taking show off my roof a pleasure. In fact two of my neighbors came over to see my new toy and they took it home and did their roofs in minutes. I like the fact that the handles can be taken apart for easy storage or I can take it to my cabin.
I recommend it to anyone. I'm 68 and it is so easy to use.
Great Product!

4.0 out of 5 stars Does the job but the slide needs improvement, December 20, 2008

An ingenious idea that does the job it was designed to do but the orange slide material is vulnerable to tearing. I had 5 rips during my first use which I am now going to try repairing with duct tape. I'll likely need to order a new one from the manufacturer when the season is over. Maybe in the future they can laminate the slide to a sheet of Tyvek or Kevlar to make it more durable.

I give it 5 stars for allowing me to clear 100ft of roof in under an hour but will subtract 1 star until the slide is made more durable.
