People kept telling me I needed a snow rake and I discounted the advice. After using makeshift methods multiple, multiple times to attempt to clear the roof - with limited success - I finally gave in and bought one. Thought it was overpriced, and then I used it. Let me tell you, this thing is worth every penny. We have yet another snow pouring down right now (I know that's a term for rain, but you should see the snow coming down!) and I promise you that my trusty snow rake and I will be out when the clouds clear away to free the roof of snow. And if you think the snow rake is pricy, just imagine repairing ice dam damage! I laughed when I read someone else's comment re the name Avalanche being apropos. If you stand directly underneath it, you are assuredly going to be covered in snow. In fact, if the snow is flying off at a good clip and you're standing anywhere near it you're likely to get hit with some. So don't stand directly beneath it and be sure to wear clothes that can take a little snow!

I live in Bayfield, WI. Snows a lot here. This has been working fine. It gets into the valleys that my Avalanche with the plastic slide can't. I haven't had a problem with it, although I'm quite careful with stuff. If it gets caught on something, work around the snag. This is great for light snows too. The rake with the slide work very well for heavier snows. I would buy it again. I recommend getting more extension handles. They are expensive though, 4' for $[...] @ www.avalanche-snow.com.

Every Winter since we bought the house in 1997, after it snows, huge ice blocks form at the edge of the roofs, eventually falling off and coming down with a huge bang. Dangerous and has destroyed a couple of STEEL awnings over doors. Part of the issue is I need more insulation in the attic and soffit vents instead of the gable vents. Anyway... I finally bought a roof rake, this one, and I have been extrememly pleased. 3 snow storms and I used it to clear the roof. No ice block, 3 foot icicles, etc. On a four storm I didn't get a chance to get out there and yet, ice blocks. So this rake work with that issue. Also I have a lot pitch roof over my porch so I no longer have a need to climb up there when the snow gets too deep and I worry about the weight. The roof rake takes care of it. A couple notes. Do NOT buy the extensions. I didn't and was concerned if it would be long enough. It is for most of the room and the only places I can not reach is part of the roof over my walk out basement (so almost 3 stories high from the ground). But with all the included extensions installed, in my opinion is as long as you should allow. With the full length, the rake is still manageable, but just barely. One more extension and I think it would be nearly impossible to handle and would be bending too much. So try it first without buying any extensions and see what you think. I think you will find it is plenty long enough and any longer won't work. Buy good winter gloves! Aluminum is COLD in winter, so you can not use this with bare hands.

Review of Avalanche SRD20 Snow RakeThis snow rake works fine for light dry snow if you get at it before it packs. Mine broke on the plastic rake where the first metal section attaches. This happened after about 20 hours of use. Granted, some of this snow was packed and needed some pulling to loosen. I have had other brands that held up to this type use for a full season or two. This is not a heavy duty item so I could only recommend it for areas that receive an average of one or two heavy snowfalls per winter. Packaging from Amazon was fair. One end of the packing box was completely open on arrival, but no pieces were missing. Shipping from Amazon was otherwise excellent.

This is really a great product. Mine was delivered last evening after another 4 inches of snow fell in Omaha. I assembled it and used it on our roof which had not been cleared of any of the prior snowfalls of the season. We had about a foot of snow on the roof in some places with already developed ice dams along our gutters. The Avalanche worked great! Very appropriately-named as a lot of snow comes off easily. Quick to assemble, solid but quite light to lift. Love the wheels which seem to protect the shingles. Nice storage device for the rake also. Very effective device overall. I wish I had gotten this much, much earlier.

I will restate what others have written. The snow must be removed as soon as possible! This rake is light weight, for easy use. That means ice and hard, crusted over snow, are off limits. You will break the rake. Keep up with the chore of raking your roof, and you will never have ice dams again. The prices for these rakes seems high, but walking on a roof of even low pitch, with a little snow under your shoes, is very dangerous. Until you have found yourself slipping towards the edge, you cannot imagine my greatfulness for this product.

Great gadget for getting snow off of your roof. Even beating the hard crust with it, while causing a couple of small cracks in it, did not destroy it. Continued using it through 3 more storms andeven loaned it out to two newighbors. It is still going strong.Only complaint is with the extensions. They are on the thin side and one of them now bends on a regular basis, so I keep swapping where it is in the chain. Would definitely buy it again.

The snow shovel makes it easy for me to remove snow from my roof on the front porch. If I don't and we have warm weather immediately I get leaks in my garage. Great tool. Buy it now.
