This device is very nice because of all the features it comes with! 1080p video recording looks great and gives you the option of either component or HDMI inputs, it can be controlled through their newly released app, and allows for storage directly to a hard drive. I would definitely recommend this to people who are planning on having their gaming setup stationary but not as much to people who are planning on moving theirs around because it's not nearly as small as their Game Capture Portable. Initially, I got the Game Capture HD 2 to record all the stream archive in HD from Twitch channel to be uploaded on my YouTube channel. Gameplay footages can be recorded directly to USB storage (USB memory stick or external hard drive) or the internal hard drive which you can attach it at the bottom of the Game Capture HD 2. At first, it might not seem like much, but being able to record in different ways made the device much more versatile for me.
When I have friends over to play some games with me, I use the USB memory stick to record everything while we play so it's much easier to share the footages with each other. I use the HDD to record gameplay, commentary by plugging in the mic into the device, edit footage with in-device editing software, and upload it to YouTube directly using the Ethernet port.
Game Capture HD 2 is very ideal for those that are looking to start their own YouTube channel but doesn't have a decent PC to record or edit the footage with. There's also an iOS and Android app called "GamerMate" which pretty much turns your smartphone into a remote for the device. On top of controlling the device with the app, it also allows you to see recording status and mage your recorded footage as well!Read more ›

Pros: 1. It records straight to a hard drive, usb thumb drive(or usb hard drive) with exceptional quality, without the need for a computer attached to it. You can play back the footage you recorded immediately after you stop recording. The playback looks exactly like what you recorded. 2. For those concerned about HDCP. The device seems to record anything that goes through an HDMI splitter first. Without one, the device will stop and tell you your content is protected. 3. There is a pass-through HDMI port which works even when the device is off. 4. One strange plus is that you can record the video from the HDMI input and audio from the component input at the same time.
Cons: 1. Even though there is an ethernet port, there's no way to transfer files from this device to your computer. You have to remove the hard drive and plug it into your computer, very inconvenient. Also as many are reporting, almost every time you replace the hard drive back to the device, you get an error message saying the drive needs repairing. I tried 3 different hard drives, actually formatting a couple with the device itself, and still had these problems. 2. I don't have the option of copying or transferring recorded footage between internal hard drive and usb drive. It's grayed out, although it is supposed to be a working function of the device. 3. There seems to be no way to use as a PVR. You can't set it to record at a random time of the day. You can't even set it to record, and then stop recording 2 hours later unattended. 4. The headphone jack seems useless. The volume is extremely low.
All or most of the Cons mentioned could probably be fixed with a new firmware update. I may change the Rating if AverMedia comes up with better software.Read more ›

I started my YouTube channel with an iPhone 3G, then later a Hauppauge HD-PVR since early 2010 with my PS3. While I haven't purchased a PS4 as of the moment I'm writing this, I will within the month and can update later.
Pros: can record from either composite input (PS3) or HDMI (Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS4). Included remote control or use available smartphone app. Can record to 2.5" hard drive (not included) or external USB drive. Built in compression actually is pretty good, but is best when edited with LNVE software. Since recording and compression don't require a PC, the quality of your recordings are superior vs. having a laptop linked up via USB and using its resources. AV pass through allows viewing source video and audio to your monitor without the unit having to be on.
Cons: you will need a hard drive, period. Whether you get an internal 2.5" drive (would recommend at least 7200 RPM. SSD isn't necessary) or an external USB, the files can then be transferred to a Windows, Mac, or Linux workstation for editing. The included "editor" isn't very good but don't think it was designed to much more than trimming clips to size (at a cost of quality). Another sorta con is that it isn't very portable, however it wasn't really meant to be. Won't allow simultaneous streaming to twitch.tv or UStream.
I recorded a little Grand Theft Auto Online gameplay with it so far, and have been impressed with its performance to date. This will not be a "cheap" solution, therefore it won't be for everyone. If you're after quality and the best for your audience, this is your huckleberry.
