Great book for children - a joy to read,
This review is from: Aaaarrgghh! Spider! (Hardcover)
Aaaarrgghh! Spider! is a humorous read about a spider that just wants to be a family pet. However, he has one small problem. Every time he tries to do something to show how good he would be as a family pet the family screams and he is put out of the house. Written from the spider's point of view it is creative imagination at its best. Aaaarrgghh! Spider! is a highly recommended read for young children and sure to be one of their favorite books.

This is a very cute story for any time and also for Halloween. I read it to my daughter's Kindergarten class at their Halloween party and they loved it! They enjoyed shouting out "Aaaargghh! Spider!" at every opportunity. It was perfect for that age group since it wasn't scary but still was appropriate for the holiday.

As a teacher and mommy, I love this book! The illustrations are wonderfully amusing and brightly colored. The story itself is a great perspective on the life of a spider and preconceptions about spiders. It is an excellent lead-in for writers' workshop. My son LOVES the predictable pattern, and at 14 months he would say "Aaargh!" and "Go!" with me as I'd read. This is a wonderful addition to the family/classroom library.

This is a picture book about a spider who wants to be a family pet. She tries to prove to a family that she is the best pet ever. She shows then that she's a good dancer, that she is very clean, that she can feed her self. The family still doesn't want her and keep throwing her outside! The family members step outside one day to find that the spider had spun many beautiful webs and that they really want to keep her as a pet. The spider is so happy with her new family that she invites all her friends to live with her in her new home. The final page shows a living room full of spiders!!
The book was really neat. My little sister (22 months) enjoyed looking at the pictures. Some of the spider webs were made with glitter. She liked touching the pictures as we read I would recommend this book to kids of all ages. It real easy to read and has lots of look at and talk about on each page. My little sister enjoyed looking for the spider in each illustration.

ARGHHH Spider!,

This cute story centers around a lonely black spider who's ambition is to be a family pet. Unfortunately the family isn't as enthralled with the idea. The book has a lot of humor in it as the lonely spider pursues the family she wants. If you have a toddler that is afraid of spiders and bugs, this is a good book to discuss their place in the ecosystem--or your house!

Aaaaarrgghh! Spider! is a terrific book to dramatize in a preschool classroom. All it requires is a small stick puppet in the shape of a spider for each child to manipulate and their off on an arachnid adventure definitely worth the price of the book. Obviously the author knows about small children.

My four-year-old daughter loves this book. The repetitive lines allow her to read with me, and I find her in her room all the time reading this book to herself. Its a wonderful starting point for teaching her to read.

My three year old love, love, loves this book! And, so do I. It is fun to read because he loves to yell Aarrrgghhh Spider! He is even recognizing the words,"out you go!" now.
I bought this book because my son does not like very wordy books, but I wanted more than just a picture book to help his language development. This book is in my opinion the perfect mix of the two. I highly recommend this book.

A new and creative way to look at spiders.,

Lydia Monks, author/illustrator, came up with a creative way to show the spiders can be domesticated pets too, but it takes hard work and determination. This clever spider tries everything it can to impress it's future family until it finally gives up and goes outside to live. The creative webs that are spun in the front yard tree, out of silver and glitter, catch the eye of the daughter and the spider finally gets what it's been yearning for, a family to live with and make as happy as a cat or dog would. The illustrations are so full of life that it's exciting to turn the page and see what is to come. Bright colors, expressive faces and cute child-like writing all add to this creative story about a not so typical spider.
