Aaliyah's newest and ( unfortunately ) final CD is the best I've heard from her. She declares her independence, her rights and freedom as a woman. Move over Alica Keys ( I like you a lot too...but I love Aaliyah). She mixes soothings sounds of soul, funk, R&B , and a surprising twist of rock. This CD may not appeal to all, especially those who are expecting the amazing beats produced in her previous songs including the smash hit " Are YOu That Somebody ? " or " Try Again !", none the less.......this is one amazing CD. It's got a song for every mood and sound for every flavor. Any fan of Aaliyah should appreciate this collection of songs. This CD is truly remarkable. I'd give it an 11, but I can only choose 5 stars. Aaliyah definitely grew up, and this CD shows just how much.

If you plan to purchase her new CD and own a DVD player, I highly recommend this version of Aaliyah's latest and now final work. The music on disc one builds upon her previous efforts while maintaining a level of originality in the hip-hop/r&b idiom that eclipses most of her peers. The level of personal growth led one to expect perhaps even better music to come in future years had she not died tragically--fans are now deprived of a resolution to this quite bold, seemingly transitional album.

The selling point here is that for roughly an extra $10 you get a bonus DVD with four videos: ONE IN A MILLION, ARE YOU THAT SOMEBODY, TRY AGAIN (a great track that I wish were on the new CD), and WE NEED A RESOLUTION. There is also an intro by Aaliyah and behind-the-scenes footage. This combination of music and video I find is the best way to remember her musical talent, beauty, and charisma.

Before Aaliyahs death I wasnt a big fan i knew her music her movies. Until one sad day in august 3 days before my birthday I woke to hearing Aaliyah died in a plane crash I was heart broken and i burst into tears. Her death made me discover her music i watched her tributes on tv and saw her videos and found out what a long career she had and was gonna have. So I heard about the new aaliyah cd with the bonus dvd i went crazy for weeks trying to found it then one day idid find it. It was an amazing cd and an amazing DVD. heres my song guide for the tracks if you wanna discover heer music.

First off I just want to say how much Aaliyah inspired the whole music world. She got me into music with the song "Are You That Somebody?" and kept me going with her two past albums and various soundtracks she did. Dr. Dolittle Soundtrack was my first CD ever, I wanted it so bad just for that one song. Bless you Aaliyah you are greatly missed!

Now to the review:

The CD: The absolute best CD I have ever heard IN MY LIFE!! (No joke) Every song is a five star. All could be singles and be on the radio, but here's the highlights on the CD, in order:

4. More Than A Woman - My 2nd favorite song ever (Next to "Are You That Somebody?") This song needs to be a single, I think they may have shot the video already before the tradegy happend.
We'll have to see, Rock The Boat is her single right now.

1. We Need A Resolution - Has that foreign sound that's hot right now. She was the first person to hit on the sound, Mandy Moore and Shakira hit it big with there songs like that. Features Timbaland. The video is hot for this song.

3. Rock The Boat - Current single, the video makes me happy and extremely sad at the same time. Bitter sweet. Great song, better than any Pop/R&B/Hip-hop/Rock/Punk . . . well you get the picture.

2. Loose Rap - Aaliyah is one for forgiving as you can hear from this song. and Try Again. This song is about if your game is not hot she'll still give you a try to see if you have other stuff to offer like a sense of humor. A+ song.

THE DVD: Shows 4 of her favorite music videos (Try Again, We Need A Resolution, One In A Million, and Are You That Somebody?) Backstage of the "We Need A Resolution" Video, Her describing each song and what it means to her. She teaches you her signature dance move she uses in most of her videos. A cool animated opening. A bunch more, all packed into one DVD.

OVERALL: No one, and I mean NO ONE can't have this in collection and still call themselves a music fan. THIS IS THE BEST CD EVER!!!!

When I first did my review of this album they didnt have the version i had with the dvd. Now they have it I will review it.

It starts off with an intro from AAliyah herself which is a special bonus. Then it gets into her favorite videos. The videos Are You That somebody, One In A Million, Try Again, and We Need A Resolution. Whoever thought of this playlist is the genius of the century. All her best songs in video form! The only gripe is that it could have featured more videos like At Your Best rmx, Hot Like Fire rmx, and Age Aint Nothing But a Number. but it is all good because i am thankful for the ones i got. I hope they will come out with a DVD with all her videos on it.... Then after this is a behind the scenes stuff about the making of the album, explanation of some of the songs, making the video We need a resolution which is more special extras.If you have the extra money DEFINITELY pick this up before they go out of stock.

Aaliyah is probably one of the best artists that we were blessed with, in the last 30 years. Each song is amazing, and unique. Each lryic and beat is brand new. Although, I love every track, here are my favorites.

"We Need A Resolution" - The first single, and a wonderful one at that. I love the beat of this song. It has a different sounding kind of chorus. The music video is great too. My favorite song on the album.

"Loose Rap" Another great song, another great beat. Probably my 3rd favorite track on the album.

"Rock the Boat" Another single. Aaliyah died when flying back home from shooting the music video for this song, which gives the song a whole new meaning.

"I Care For U" Aaliyah's favorite track on this album, and my second favorite. Beautifully sung.

"I Refuse" One of the longer tracks, and one of the best.

I love each song, and could go on and on about each piece, but I won't.

This version of Aaliyah's self tittled album comes with a bonus dvd, featuring an intro. by Aaliyah, music videos for songs "One in a Million", "Are you that Somebody", "Try Again", and "We Need a Resolution". At the end it features a behind the scenes look at the album.

Aaliyah may have gone to a better place, but she lives on in her music!

This is the last and final complete work we will hear from Aaliyah and is her most consistent. After a 5 year hiatus from "One In a million" we only heard singles and soundtrack songs which questioned her ability to do a whole lp! Finally in 2001 she delivers one of the most advanced and futuristic works of her career with out the help of Timbaland. Timbaland can be heard on only 3 tracks on this cd, but the rest doesn't disapoint in the least. Actually you can't even tell that Timbaland is missing the other beats are so far fetched! This is a milestone in R&B and it is to bad that the tradition hasn't carried on in others work. AAliyah has always pushed for the future just as Madonna, Janet(until recent album) and Prince did!Packed with the eclecticness that "TLC Fanmail" delivered to the Haunting feel that "Janets Velvet Rope" gave comes AAliyah! This is a master work that will always be looked at a one of the most artistic cd's in history. Fused with European Dance and Trip Hop elements, you can tell that Aaliyah is definitley a diverse music listener. U can also hear the funk delivered a heavy Prince influence through out this mastery of art. I knew that Aaliyah had a good ear when Timbaland & Missy stated that she discovered them for her 1996 "One In a Million LP !" When know one else would give them a chance in the business ! Don't miss the opportunity to own this "Limited Edition" I have 2 copies. The DVD features interviews with Timbaland, Aaliyah, and Keybeats and Static which did a bulk of the production on this lp. Also it features videos such as "One in a Million, Are you that Somebody, We need a Resolution, and Try again. It is a nice package for the money, Aaliyah will be truley missed ! You only run across a leader every 2 decades or so! I believe AAliyah would have surpassed the R&B stature on to stardom and innovativeness! She was definitley capable of being the next big super Icon! Definitley look for songs such as "John Blaze", "Man Undercover", and "I am Music" for further innovations from the late artist.

This CD is everything I was expecting of Ms. A. Sultry soul songs, upbeat and tight dance grooves, but what a great bonus to include the DVD of four of her hottest videos - including Are You That Somebody. How much do I love that video and song? So if you like the formula Aaliyah is delivering - you're going to go wild over this cd and DVD accompaniment.

Aaliyahs first 2 albums age aint nothing but a number and one a million both had platinum+ sucess and scoring such hits a back and forth, one in a million if your girl only knew and the beautiful the one i gave my heart to.After five years including movies she made a big musical comeback with her third studio release self titled AALIYAH.Which is her best album to date. I purchased this album shortly after the tragic plane crash. This album was worth the wait. There is many differences from album to her last releases you would expect the smooth street sound, but a big suprise she cameback with a funky soul and smooth r&b with rockish flares. This album is quality every song is a treat for the ears. Each of the 15 songs are fun happy emotional and hearfelt and enjoyable. Even if you werent a big fan of AALIYAH you will totally enjoy and love this album.Plus for the ultimate fan this is the special realease with the limited addition bonus dvd. It's hard to beleive that it has been over a year since Aaliyah died in a plane crash. The talent that Aaliyah had was unbelieveable, and this album demonstrates this. Aaliyah's vocals on this album are stronger and the tone of the album shows how much she has grown as an artist and a woman. Every song on this cd is worth checking out, but the songs that stand out the most are We Need A Resolution, Rock The Boat, More Than A Woman, I Care 4 U, and I Refuse. Along with this edition of "Aaliyah" you get a DVD which includes and introduction from Aaliyah in which she gives her appreciation for her fans as well as lets them know that she is back. The DVD also includes several of Aaliyah's favorite videos that she has made through out the corse of her career including One In A Million, Are You That Somebody, Try Again, and We Need A Resolution. If you want to see and hear a real angel sing, buy this cd. I miss you babygirl!!!
