1.0 out of 5 stars MESSED UP MY FIRE February 23, 2012
Verified Purchase
Installed and tried this app, decided I didn't need it, uninstalled (mainly for space reasons). Afterwards, I was having problems with Fire's sound and with the appearance of a phantom and unresponsive mute icon between gear and WiFi icons. Turns out that Android Assistant had left footprints!

I reinstalled, juggled the AA's settings, and removed the app again. Just hope it hasn't left any more mysterious surprises and hasn't caused any other damage. IMHO, the developers and/or Amazon should pull this app (for use on the Fire, I have no experience with it on other devices) as it is not beneficial.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Absolutely Favorite App So Far? January 19, 2013
Verified Purchase
Original Review:
Since getting my Kindle Fire HD, I guess you could say that I've been collecting Free apps. I've been trying to use each one of them enough to see if they are worth keeping on the device, keeping in the cloud for using every once in a while, or getting rid of entirely because either I will never use them or they mess up my Kindle. It will take a while but as I make my decision on each App, I'll try to review it. I am more of a techie so I lean more toward the productivity apps than the games. I'm also trying to figure out all this stuff about Flash support going away and being replaced with HTML5 so a lot of my apps are TV/Movie/Video related.

Back To this Android App. I Love that I can start it and see my CPU, Memory, and Battery Info on one screen. To see this make sure the Monitor icon at the top of the opening screen is highlighted. The other icons at the top of this screed are Process and Tools.

There is a Quick Boost Feature at the bottom of this screen that when hit will tell you the number of items it will clean up and how much memory will be released. It is important to be able to release memory because some applications tend not to release that big hunk of memory that they grabed so they could run even after you have stopped or killed the application. If your available Free memory is too low some apps can't run or will run very slowly. Remember you can see the memory info on this "Monitor" screen.

The other option via icon at the top of this screen is "Process". If you highlight Process at the top of the screen you will see the processes running on your kindle. To the right of the processes is a grey box with a bright green check mark if a process is selected or a dim grey checkmark if it is not selected.

First let me tell you how I found this app. I was having problems with my battery life (probably because my Kindle Fire is getting older), so I went on the Internet to see of the battery was replaceable. It was not (as I expected). I then went to Amazon's "Help Forums" and a top reviewer a suggested that I purchase Android Assistant. Out of curiosity, I looked it up and read the description. I had also had trouble with notifications making noise while my volume was turned down. The app said it lengthened battery life, helped with storage space, and helped control the volume. Great, I thought. Additionally it had four stars and the "Most Helpful Review" (at that time) was five stars and showered praise on the app. I immediately downloaded it, neglecting to read the second most helpful review (now the most helpful). BIG MISTAKE! At first, I just worked with the battery and storage settings. I could not tell a difference, but I wanted to see of it would help over time. Meanwhile, I noticed the volume adjustment button. I turned all my sounds all the way down and left it that way for school. That night I turned it back up but did not hear sound. I did not think much of it. The sound still did not work the next day. I worked with the settings and could not fix it. I deleted the app. Still no sound! I restarted my Kindle Fire more than 5 times. Still no sound! I read the second most helpful review. I redownloaded the app and adjusted almost every setting. Still No Sound! I panicked. I deleted the app from my device and my cloud and restarted the Kindle Fire 5 more times. STILL NO SOUND!!! I called Amazon Customer Service. They were very helpful and I am awaiting a call back, but in the meantime, you guessed it, STILL NO SOUND!!! Read more ›

3.0 out of 5 stars Broke my Kindle October 14, 2013
Verified Purchase
Alright, this app kind of broke my KF.. in a way.
I was using the root explorer it came with and I made a file. Yes, just a normal, blank file. And I clicked on it. I got a , HUUGE HUUGE list of things.. and I chose Kindle ( I forgot the rest). Well THAT was a HUGE mistake. It shut of my Kindle, rebooted, and I got a screen. With a warning icon. And it told me MY KINDLE COULD NOT BOOT. And it told me to restore to factory defaults hold power. So now my Kindle IS LIKE IT . WAS BRAND NEW OUT OF THE BOX.
Of course. This was mostly my fault.

I'm just warning you - BEWARE OF THE EXPLORER.

1.0 out of 5 stars Totally obsolete version, get it elsewhere May 31, 2013
As so frequently is the case, Amazon is providing an ancient version of this Android app. Amazon is distributing version 2.6 as of 5/31/2013. has version 5.3. I'll download it from there and give it a try on my KFHD8.9.

I've found that it isn't the lack of apps that's a problem at Amazon, it's the plethora of obsolete versions of apps that is a huge problem. Also, Amazon frequently claims that an app is incompatible with my KFHD8.9. So I get the app elsewhere and it works just fine.

Yay, thanks to this app, my tablet is running much better. It cleared away stuff I had deleted, but apparently was hiding still in the tablet.

The battery life in my tablet was terrible, draining quite a bit overnight. Now, I run this program before I put my tablet away and the problem seems to be solved.

3.0 out of 5 stars Works ok
Works Very well for android but I don't recommend this for Kindle. It does not close down most apps, you have to keep clicking refresh and close.
