Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 5-8–Melton begins with the duel between Burr and Hamilton, drawing readers into an easy-to-understand look at early American history. The author describes Burr's early years, his political career, and the events leading up to the famous duel, as well as its aftermath. Powell begins with a brief description of Arnold's childhood and continues with a discussion of his involvement in the American Revolution. In a nonjudgmental way, reasons are given for his move from war hero to traitor. The book concludes with the general's later years and death in England. Colorful oil paintings, documents, and sidebars make these titles appealing to readers. Students looking for report material will find the short chapters, time lines, and indexes very helpful. Good choices for research or simply for informative reading.–Denise Moore, O'Gorman Junior High School, Sioux Falls, SD
