When I first purchased this item, I was skeptical that it would target the abdominals more than a regular crunch. After reading some of the reviews I went for the slightly more expensive one since I would be using it frequently. Right out of the box, I thought this must have been a cheaper knockoff of the original because the instruction manual and the pictures on the box looked like copies of a copy or still images from a home camcorder. I have to say that once it is assembled and used correctly, you will get up "feeling the burn" in the targeted areas.Even when you do the oblique crunches, you don't feel the strain on your neck and shoulders you would without the tool


Tip: Make sure to really pull down hard with your hands/arms while doing the crunches, otherwise, you will feel the same neck stress as a regular crunch. Intuitively, you would think that if you're oversupporting your head, it wouldn't work. But try it. You won't feel it work the first time until you get up (if you do less than you normally do), but it then becomes apparent that it did it's job.

I'm still not sure if it's a knockoff, but I don't care. It does what I paid for it to do. I get a way more intense abominal workout in half the time. Also, my neck, shoulders, and back don't hurt when I'm done.... only the abs!! I hope this was helpful

Makes doing sit ups a pleasure! I love this machine. Very easy and you can tell you aren't throwing your back out. Allows you to focus on the muscles you are using.

I used a similiar AB machine in the gym. The AB roller/trainer design does work the AB muscles well while protecting the lower back. A number of different AB excercises can be done. My issue is this model. It's made of very cheap materials. The design is too low and too wide. $60.00 for a product of this low quality is completely unacceptable to me. Find a better quality item. The concept works great but I recommend you stay away from this one.

This Ab Trainer Original by TriStar was bought for myself. In the beginning, it was kind of tough for me because I am on the petite side. It looked too big when I was in it. However, the more I use it, the easier it gets. Now I can do many crunches (100+) everyday with ease. The only problem I have with this ab trainder is that one of the connections (from headrest to the mainframe) was not cut perfectly when manufactured. It creates the squeaking sound whenever I do crunches. Besides the unpleasant noise, I am very satisfied with this product.

I've used professional models of these ab trainers, and this item appeared to be comparable in the photos. Upon opening the package & inspecting the parts, the metal tubing used seems to be adequate,and the hardware looks to be typical "Made in China" junk. The armpads & headrest are vinyl-covered pieces of foam over wood backing, poorly stapled & finished. The assembly instruction book is horrendous. Vague and tiny hand-drawn diagrams with confusing, poorly written instructions. I was shorted one screw, and supplied with four plastic spacers that do not appear in the assembly diagram, and are not mentioned ANYWHERE in the instructions. A big disappointment.

Lifestyle Sports sent me, free of any charge, a replacement AB Trainer upon learning the original fell short of their quality standards. Works great! I greatly appreciated their ethical stance and prompt response in this matter, and I highly recommend them and the AB Trainer to others!

Good price, fast shipping and all the parts were there. You exercise your abs and saves your back.

Don't purchase this item...it shipped without the hardware fitting and the directions are idiotic. Additionally, it is made for someone who isn't short...so make sure you know the measurements of how you will fit in it. I am angry I spent good money on this.

This ab shaper does the job but I was disappointed with the quality of the parts when I assembled it.

There are four places where tubes slot into each other and need to be fixed in place with two bolts. No matter how I try to arrange the parts, at each of those places only one of the two sets of holes line up properly. So now the thing is held together with only one bolt in each place where there should be two.

Having said that, it seems to be holding together OK so far ...... and it did only cost $40 so, at the end of the day, you get what you pay for ......

Product is good if I'm using it correctly. It does not come with an instructional pamplet/manual. None produced.
