Several good stories,
By Beverly McPherson "Bev." (Ravenswood, WV United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Abaculus II (Abaculus Anthologies) (Paperback)
In this collection of 18 short stories I found most of the science fiction and the horror stories fairly well written and fun to read. The fantasy selections were not all that interesting for me.
The Photograph of Carolina Stump by W.D. Wilcox is my favorite. It is a good old fashion ghost story that would be fun to tell around a campfire. Maternal Instinct by Lesley Conner, is my second favorite. Classic horror featuring a vampire and zombies with a slight twist. Would like to see more, longer works by this author. I enjoyed Spleen, a tale of soul harvesting, by Ben Spivey, but the typos were distracting. Others I liked were, Death of a Slug, Must Have Own Weapons, and Runner. Usually when I pick up a collection of short stories, I only find one or two within the book worthwhile, this one has several. |
