5.0 out of 5 stars I could listen over and over....
I first heard of Chasing Furies from a silly TBN game show and immediately went to check them out. This CD is one of those that you could listen to over and over again. Whether its background music or drivin down the highway music, this band fits almost any mood.

If you like the enchanted melodic sound of the Cranberries or the soft-core style of Drain STH or even just sound of interesting alternative then check this band out.
The chick who sings lead has a wonderful voice that digs down deep inside you.
Better yet...they are using all this amazing talent to golorify God!
Definitely worth the investment

5.0 out of 5 stars Love Songs to God, July 13, 2000
This review is from: With Abandon (Audio CD)
Chasing Furies is one of my favorite bands. I don't know exactly why they are my favorite, and maybe that's why. I've played this CD over and over, which I cannot say about many of the CD's I've heard.

They are a Contemporary Christian band though they don't use much specifically Christian language. They are sometimes classified in print as Modern Rock Alternative, but they don't sound a lot like others in that category. I think of their music as love songs to God in the tradition of Christian mysticism. I like their production values, also. There is solid musicianship with an occasional turn of expression that sounds like a veneer of pop covering a deeper esthetic. There are unexpected effects, but they are not gratuitous.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing, March 6, 2002

This is, without a doubt, the best album to come down the pike in a long, long time. Excellent songwriting, unbelievably creative and consistent production (there are actually two producers on this album, but you would never know that by listening), and inspired performances make this album a must-have.

These guys have taken the music scene by the throat - they have something important to say, and they do it with a style that is compelling and fresh. This is one band to watch.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good, July 12, 2000
This review is from: With Abandon (Audio CD)
What makes this music stand out (beyond that it's just very good) is the way a complex, feminine, highly crafted piano sound is successfully layered with edgy alternative-sounding guitar work. And what I like even more is the way the guitar is deliberately roughed up in some spots -- the guitarist doesn't come in clean, instead he scrapes the strings and he crashes into the songs. At the same time, you can tell this is not because he's reckless, but rather the entire band practices such skilled musicianship that they can deliberately compose imperfections in the songs to make them even more perfect.

The singing is also excellent, pulling you in, and the crescendoes really build up well. The lyrics they're singing, however, are at some points fairly weak. As one person on Usenet put it, "the song I Surrender portrays God as some kind of cosmic stalker." I hope the lyrics are just the theology of someone who hasn't quite figured things out.

The bands I think of when I hear this CD are not the same bands other people have mentioned in their reviews. Instead, I hear slight influences by bands like Heart and Veruca Salt and Tori Amos. But slight influences is it -- good luck tryiing to box them in as any of those bands, and don't be upset with me if you buy the CD expecting a clone of something else. It's just too unique.

When I hear bands like this, and Luna Halo, and Fono, I have to wonder: how is it that secular alternative radio has become so stale and redundant and Christian bands have become the innovators? Are there any execs at the major labels that understand what a profound change this kind of music could cause if it were mass marketed? These bands could revitalize an entire genre of music. And the messages these bands deliver are 180 degrees from the miserable garbage out there now.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my personal favorites...., May 10, 2004
This review is from: With Abandon (Audio CD)
It is truelly sad that Chasing Furies did not recieve the radio play and attention they deserved on this CD. Being a promoter of Alt/Rock bands in Southern OR for some time, I find it hard to believe that this CD did not take off. Instead Chasing Furies is a name that very few are familiar with, and since it has been many years sine the release of this their final CD, I assume they are no more. Amazingly beautiful harmonies. Chasing furies where tearing apart our souls and minds, long before Evenesence, was even on the radio. If you do not own it, but it...

5.0 out of 5 stars A True Delight, November 29, 2003
This review is from: With Abandon (Audio CD)
No true Christian/Alternative/Rock music collection would be complete without this album in it. The lyrics are awesome, heartfelt and honest in their revealing of the inner hearts of these 3 siblings as they struggle through life and try to walk closer to God.
Haunting vocals and sweet harmonies make my heart melt every time I listen to it.
I like it for the aforementioned reasons and also because it is technically well-produced, the music is well written and contains a lot of variety in style, and because it crosses generational barriers. (My kids both love it too, and one is 19 and the other is 26)
Unfortunately, as far as I can tell, this is their one and only CD. However, you can also hear two other cuts from Chasing Furies if you buy the compilations "Happy Christmas" and "Listen: Louder", I believe both on Sparrow Records.
If any one knows how to het hold of Chasing Furies, please have them call me. I'm in the phone book. I know of a Christian Night Club who'd LOVE to book them!
Happy listening!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good New Stuff, October 7, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: With Abandon (Audio CD)
Chasing Furies is one of very very few bands in Christian music that is actually doing something new. Not mirroring a successful christian band, not mirroring a secular artist, but actually trying new things. That's refreshing, and encouraging. The downside is that it's a little raw -- while fresh, sometimes the songs lack the power and punch I wish they would have. So buy this album, but really keep your eye out for the next one. Maturity should really help them.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best I've heard, December 25, 2002

I borrowed this cd from my church, and I couldn't stop listening to it. I don't know if I'll ever be able to return it, at least until I get a chance to go out and buy it. :) My favorite track is #3, it reminds me of Violet Burning...another cool band to check out. :)

4.0 out of 5 stars A slow love, June 27, 2001

I had heard this album a couple of times before I purchased it and honestly, I wasn't that 'moved' (spiritually) by my first few listens. But I loved the sound so I bought it anyway. But since I've had it in my own possesion, I've had the chance to study the lyrics more closely, and I must say, the extra study has been very beneficial. (this is kind of a no-brainer, I know-- we should always study the lyrics, but sometimes, the ol' noggin is thick) I love the expression of abandon and longing and yearning for God to be a part of our every breath and move. There are songs for so many 'stages' of the Christian life-- the vibrant, the dry, the broken, the lover, the beggar, the seeker. Buy it for the sound, love it for the message. God is awesome!

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW!, January 10, 2001
This review is from: With Abandon (Audio CD)
I think that CF is one of the best bands in CCM. Their music is dreamy and although it does have a rather lethargic feel, I don't feel that it is depressing. In fact, it is comforting to listen to when I am disturbed or scared. I really can't wait for another album...
