A fun and fast paced read,
This review is from: Abandon (Mira Romantic Suspense) (Mass Market Paperback)
This book is a hoot and moves at a brisk pace engaging the reader with good characters and an intriguing story. I felt compelled to finish it because I really wanted to find out how it ends. The settings are great and the characters believable and real. I'm always glad to find a new release by Carla Neggers and this one doesn't disappoint.

A lukewarm suspense mysteery at best,
By Neal C. Reynolds (Indianapolis, Indiana) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (TOP 1000 REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)

I can only say that this one from Neggers is okay, and that strictly for the author's fans. Jesse, the villain of the piece, spices things up a little, but McKenzie and Andrew simply lack any charm or charisma. These two pretty much waltz through the book although McKenzie does get tossed around a little. Strictly for those obsessed with the genre, but nothing special for most readers.

exciting police procedural romantic suspense,
This review is from: Abandon (Mira Romantic Suspense) (Mass Market Paperback)
The knife slasher surprised rookie Deputy U.S. Marshal Mackenzie Stewart when he lunged at her. She is fortunate to have survived. However, she believes the intended target is her close friend, federal Judge Bernadette Peacham. She vows to keep Bernadette safe while catching the escaped "pale-eyes" killer.
Mackenzie is assigned to work with FBI Agent Andrew Rook, the last person she wants to be teamed up with. They had a hot three week fling until Rook checkmated her by abruptly dumping her. Still this is no time to stand on ceremony as Mackenzie knows the first object is keeping Bernadette safe though she berates herself for still wanting the rat who abandoned ship just when it looked like they might have something passionately perfect. This exciting police procedural romantic suspense takes about a little more than a third of the novel before the story line accelerates into the cat and mouse war between the two Feds and Pale-Eyes, but once it does, readers will not ABANDON the tale until the book is finished. Mac is a terrific protagonist while Rook has some commitment issues, but is there once his beloved is under attack. She has doubts that he will remain there as he lacks staying power. Though starting slowly and not the author's best work, fans will still enjoy Carla Neggers' fine thriller. Harriet Klausner

CARLA NEGGERS NEVER DISAPPOINTS,
By Loves to Read "Cactus" (CICERO, NY United States) - See all my reviews

I always wait for Carla Negger's books, and I am never disappointed. I can't understand the negative comments. This is a GREAT book. The heroine is a hoot and everything is tied together perfectly. What I like best about her books is that you really feel like you are there...in the setting. It's very rich and fully of detail.
If you miss this book, you'll be missing a great read!!! Cactus

Flimsy, weak storyline.,
By Frankie (Pennsylvania) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Abandon (Mira Romantic Suspense) (Mass Market Paperback)
This book was horrible. I have to agree with one of the other reviewers except (minor point) that MacKenzie is a US Marshal, not a fellow FBI agent. That notwithstanding, it's as if 47 different people were given an outline and one chapter to write and then they put them all together. Only they didn't go together. The plot was so thin and the characters never finished a conversation (question asked; question not answered). I usually finish a book this size in 2-3 hours; however, it took me a week to get to page 200 and then I was so aggravated by the flimsy storyline that I just skipped to the last 2 paragraphs and skimmed the ending. Don't waste your money.

Loved it!,

I loved this book.
Mackenzie Stewart defied expectations to became a federal agent, and on her first weeks on the job she fends off what appears to be a madman with a knife. Mackenzie has a great sense of humor. She gets involved with Andrew Rook, an FBI agent who's after an informant who's turned up missing. Great story!

Didn't work for me.,

Something about this just didn't work for me. It started out with some promise, and I thought we were heading into some big conspiracy story. Instead, we get a mostly crazy guy who conveniently has past ties to our main character. A master criminal, he definitely was not. Also, since Mac and Rook already know each other when the story opens, we miss out on the chase that is often the best part of a romantic suspense. It's only a matter of time before they fall together again, especially since the reason why they were apart isn't particularly harsh. And to add insult to injury, their reunion happens way too soon. Took all the fun out of the suspense. I'm starting to think that maybe Neggers isn't my cup of tea.

How about No Stars?,
By Barbara Kay (Farmville, N.C. USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Abandon (Mira Romantic Suspense) (Mass Market Paperback)
I started this book about ten days ago. When I had an opportunity to sit and read, I found myself finding something else to do instead. Being a mystery fan, this should have been my first clue. Today I was determined to finish this book and I fell asleep, twice. Okay, I'm done. This is not a thriller. The mystery to me is that is ever got published in the first place. I even looked to see the copyright date to see if Carla Neggers wrote this book when she was fifteen years old. I am throwing the book away, unfinished. I will not waste anymore time on it. Please don't waste your time, there are better books out there. Abandon this book before you end up as frustrated as I was while reading this uninteresting, confusing, lackluster novel.
