Mr. Telchin's book is a sad read, as it promotes the standard supercessionist replacement theology that the Gentile church fathers began. Bottom line, if God abandoned His promises to Israel, in any way, Christians have no hope for God's faithfulness to them.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great place to begin understanding., April 7, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Abandoned: What Is God's Will for the Jewish People and the Church? (Paperback)
Mr. Telchin has written a terrific book. Abandoned has a short history of split between Jews and Christians - enough to get you started, if studying history is your thing. But the book is primarily about the things we Messianic Gentiles (another way of saying non-Jewish believers in Christ) need to know in order to approach our Jewish sisters and brothers. Jews have reason to fear Christians; many churches still teach that God has given up on His Chosen People and has transferred His blessing to the Church, despite the Promises of God in the Old Testament, despite the clear teaching of Paul in Romans, despite the Words of our Saviour! To lovingly breach the walls that have grown between us, we believers in Yahshua (the name of Jesus in Hebrew) need to understand the feelings and thoughts of Jews here in North America. Mr. Telchin's book documents the modern concerns of his people, and (most interestingly) his own struggles in finally believing Moses and the Prophets. Often heartbreaking, but necessary reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly an eye-opener for Jew and Gentile!, July 19, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Abandoned: What Is God's Will for the Jewish People and the Church? (Paperback)
As a Jew, I believe Abandoned portrays a very accurate picture of how Jewish people were misled regarding the Messiah. When I see such vacant arguments presented by others such as "A Jewish person would not believe in Jesus", it is clear how desperately a book like this is needed.

5.0 out of 5 stars accurate. factual. speaks the heart of a Jewish-believer, June 29, 1999

This review is from: Abandoned: What Is God's Will for the Jewish People and the Church? (Paperback)
Stan Telchin's book is a bulls-eye. A very accurate historical approach embracing a Judeo-Christian timeline. As a Messianic Jew, Stan uncovers the great deception that has blinded the Jew for centuries. His ability to unveil the lies and inaccuracies most Jews live unknowingly....a great book to give an unsaved Jewish friend...no need to say anything, just give the book...Stan and God will do the rest.

5.0 out of 5 stars A FAMOUS "MESSIANIC JEWISH" AUTHOR'S SECOND BOOK, April 29, 2011
This review is from: Abandoned: What Is God's Will for the Jewish People and the Church? (Paperback)
Stan Telchin converted from Judaism to Christianity, after his 21-year old daughter Judy told him that she believed in Jesus. He was leader of a Messianic congregation in Maryland for fourteen years, but now travels on behalf of Jews for Jesus. He is also the author of Betrayed! and Messianic Judaism is Not Christianity: A Loving Call to Unity.

He wrote in the Introduction to this 1997 book, "For fourteen years I served as pastor of a New Covenant congregation made up of Jews and Gentiles... Over those years I learned many things about how believers in Yeshua... are to live their lives together. I also learned much about God's will for His chosen people. So I feel especially qualified to address a subject many people do not understand and many others are reluctant to address: the present urgent need for believers in Yeshua to reach out and receive the Jewish people. It is my hope that the information you are about to receive will help you understand how important you are in God's plan to reach the Jewish people with His message of love, and that it will equip you to do so more effectively."

Here are some additional quotations from the book:

"Church, do you see it? We DO have a problem. We have made incorrect assumptions about the faithfulness of God to His covenant people. We have not understood that a kind of blindness has happened to Israel 'until the final number of the Gentiles has come in.' What does that mean? What does it mean to you? What does it have to do with the Church?" (Pg. 48)
"Sammy Davis, Jr., converted to Judaism. Did that make him a Jew? Most Jews would say, 'Not really.' Converts to Judaism become not Jews for proselytes to Judaism. (Their children, however, are considered Jews." (Pg. 102)

This review is from: Abandoned: What Is God's Will for the Jewish People and the Church? (Paperback)
I was so excited to read about one Jewish man's journey in finding God through Jesus and his daughter. It shows the power of God's Word. Seeing the hand of God work in Stan's life was so special. I'm glad to have read his story. I think all Christians should explore this book. It taught me to never underestimate what sharing the truth with one other person can accomplish.

This was another of Stan Telchin's great books regarding the movement to unite the Christian and Jewish viewpoint on God's eternal world. If ever you wonder, please refer to this book and its impact on human destiny.

4.0 out of 5 stars This book is a must read for all Christians., September 16, 1998

This review is from: Abandoned: What Is God's Will for the Jewish People and the Church? (Paperback)
This book gives an excellent but brief summary of the Church's attitudes towards the Jews, the essentials of the Jewish faith and a challenge to Christians to share their faith with Jews. Since the author is a Jewish believer he shares many excellent insights that a non-Jew would not have.

1.0 out of 5 stars who is a jew?, April 27, 2000
This review is from: Abandoned: What Is God's Will for the Jewish People and the Church? (Paperback)
one of the few things upon which Jews across the spectrum from the most orthodox to the most liberal can agree is that a person who believes in Jesus - that this man is the Messiah - such a person is NOT a Jew.

I fear that sincere, good-hearted people may be misled by a book such as this one. A Messianic "Jew" may know technical details of Jewish practice, may even have been a practising Jew at some point in his/her life - but the perspective of such a believer should not be mistaken for insight into Judaism or Jews who maintain their belief in their tradition. Such a person certainly has a faith tradition, but it has nothing to do with Judaism.

One should always do one's best to behave with tolerance and understanding to all of differing faith traditions. What a book like this perpetuates is NEITHER tolerance NOR understanding, but rather a total lack of respect for Jews and Judaism. What I find particularly preposterous is that a book expressing what appears to be a strain of Christian theology is to be found in this Amazon catalogue when browsing in the Judaism section. For Messianic "Jews" and those interested in their beliefs this book may be one you wish to read. For those with a genuine interest in Jews and Judaism, may I suggest you look for books by authors such as Eugene Borowitz, Martin Buber, Mordechai Kaplan, Louis Jacobs, Rachel Adler, Maurice Lamm and Abraham J. Heschel just for starters!
