5.0 out of 5 stars Tego the best hiphop CD in years in English or Spanish, November 13, 2003

I don't usually write reviews but I want to respond to the earlier guy who said Tego's CD was a copy of English rappers. When is the last time you heard a bomba or plena beat in a rap song.... I'll tell you NEVER. None of the beats are copied and I'd like anyone to point out which song if they disagree. Being that Puerto Rico is a part of the US all samples must be cleared and the only two samples on the CD are from Ojos Chinos, and Witnila by Ismael Rivera. Interludes play rumba beats. There is hip hop salsa. However, Tego shines in the strictly hip hop songs as well as the Reggaeton (spanish reggae) and bomba, plena and salsa based songs. His strength is his lyrical talent, realness, and consciousness which is why even older Puerto Rican who don't even like hip hop have embraced Tego.... And freestylin...... please Tego would eat half of mainland rappers in English or Spanish. Most rappers that are well known can barely freestyle so lets keep it real! Cubans and Puerto Ricans have been freestyling using call and response when hundreds of years before hip hop even existed. Cop this, its a must have for anybody who loves hip hop PERIOD!

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome CD, April 22, 2004
This review is from: El Abayarde (Audio CD)
I looooooooove this cd. I dont have a drop of spanish blood in me, but you dont have to to love this cd. the beats and hooks are enough to get you out of the seat and moving. even though i dont understand a word Tego is saying, I can still appreciate some good music when I hear it. If you love reggeaton, go pick this up.. you wont regret it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jey, November 18, 2003

I agree with all the reviews that speak great things about Tego's CD. I'm not too crazy about hip hop or reggeton, but this CD is a must have and it's made me pay more attention to the (spanish reggae) reggeton movement. I first got interested in Tego when I read an article in the New York Times. This article spoke of a reggeton fest that took place in New York during the summer and it especifically talked about Tego Calderon being one of the best, if not the greatest, of reggeton performers. The rhythm of the songs is contagious and it just makes you want to get up and dance. I bought his CD out of curiousity and I don't regret it one bit.
