I looooooooove this cd. I dont have a drop of spanish blood in me, but you dont have to to love this cd. the beats and hooks are enough to get you out of the seat and moving. even though i dont understand a word Tego is saying, I can still appreciate some good music when I hear it. If you love reggeaton, go pick this up.. you wont regret it.

I don't usually write reviews but I want to respond to the earlier guy who said Tego's CD was a copy of English rappers. When is the last time you heard a bomba or plena beat in a rap song.... I'll tell you NEVER. None of the beats are copied and I'd like anyone to point out which song if they disagree. Being that Puerto Rico is a part of the US all samples must be cleared and the only two samples on the CD are from Ojos Chinos, and Witnila by Ismael Rivera. Interludes play rumba beats. There is hip hop salsa. However, Tego shines in the strictly hip hop songs as well as the Reggaeton (spanish reggae) and bomba, plena and salsa based songs. His strength is his lyrical talent, realness, and consciousness which is why even older Puerto Rican who don't even like hip hop have embraced Tego.... And freestylin...... please Tego would eat half of mainland rappers in English or Spanish. Most rappers that are well known can barely freestyle so lets keep it real! Cubans and Puerto Ricans have been freestyling using call and response when hundreds of years before hip hop even existed. Cop this, its a must have for anybody who loves hip hop PERIOD!

I agree with all the reviews that speak great things about Tego's CD. I'm not too crazy about hip hop or reggeton, but this CD is a must have and it's made me pay more attention to the (spanish reggae) reggeton movement. I first got interested in Tego when I read an article in the New York Times. This article spoke of a reggeton fest that took place in New York during the summer and it especifically talked about Tego Calderon being one of the best, if not the greatest, of reggeton performers. The rhythm of the songs is contagious and it just makes you want to get up and dance. I bought his CD out of curiousity and I don't regret it one bit.

This is for the idiot who said this CD sucks. You have got to be kidding me. He is one of the best spanish rappers out there right now one of the best to have come out in a long time! And about him taking peoples beats...so what! We got english rappers doing that (i.e. Joe Budden) if they can do it and it's ok then why not in spanish? That just proves how good he is that he can flow to an english beat in spanish. And if you say that any NY person can beat him then why don't you step up on the plate? For everyone else...El CD esta tremendo! Esta que quema! Yo pienso que todo latino que le gusta el reggaeton y el rap en espanol deberia compralo! And by the way which beats do you hear him copying from English rappers? I haven't heard it. So would you please be so kind as to inform me please!

This CD is a masterpiece, well put together. Tego's voice and rhyming skills carry this CD to the top. The beats are hot as well.

SOng by song review:

El Abayarde: Tego introduces himself to the game, crazy ass beat

Al Natural: Reggaeton a lo Calde', Tego brings new flavor to reggaeton with his flow

Poquito: All right song, one of my least favorites, good beat and flow tho.

Pa Que Retozen: Still gets play at the clubs, enough said.

Interlude: Tego not afraid to be different , includes bomba, this is like a intro to the middle of his cd.

Loiza: Wow, one of my favorites, Tego se desahoga, this is what hip hop is about, saying whats on ur mind, Tego talks about tabu topic of racism in P.R., great song, makes u think

No Me La Explota w/Eddie Dee: Tiraera, Tego n Eddie rip nemesis Lito y Polaco, great beat and lyrics, made me laugh first time I heard it.

Interlude: Intro to illest song on CD, Guasa Guasa

Guasa Guasa: Tego ate up Lito y Polaco with this song, the beat alone makes u want to keep listenin to this song, Tego's flow in this song is out of this world.

Dominicana: Tego w/ DJ Nelson, good song and beat.

Cambumbo: The beat by Cookee is sick, Tego rides the beat without losing a step, this is raw hip hop

Salte Del Medio: Tego blending hip hop with soneo, Puerto Rico's answer to freestyling, sick song with PR salsa flavor.

Tus Ojos: Slow RB song produced by Maestro, ok song, not that good

Los Difuntos: Wow, my favorite song on the CD, great lyrical content and message, this song shows Tego is HIP HOP first, reggaeton second

Lleva y Trae: Good reggaeton, good storyline to it.

Tego graduated from a Puerto Rico music conservatory with percussion as his concentration. It certainly shows as he rips apart any beat on his way with words you hadn't heard in ages but all greatly intertwine and add to his lyrical flavor. People that do not understand spanish will miss on much of the experience but any person that likes good beats and good rhyming has to appreciate the hability of this ugly but talented dude who with this CD sparked the world's curiosity for reggaeton that led to Daddy Yankee, Don Omar, Ivy Queen and Wisin y Yandel hit the Euro and North American airwaves and hit deep within the spanish speakers and international beat lovers alike. A great intro to how much fusion can go into this genre and how it ties into Puerto Rican folklore (the established salsa soneo, the Jamaican dancehall/reggae & the U.S. hip hop). A must-have CD for anybody that wants to get a taste of reggaeton and a guaranteed party maker. If you understand how Tego rhymes, an ecstatic musical experience. Oh, and about Cali Playa 415's review (again), throughout his review history (check it out if you're interested why such strong feelings) he is basically a hip hop fan that is a reggaeton hater and has continually given one-star reviews to the genre's best performing records, most of those ratings in a couple of days, maybe because of having lost a rhyming battle to a reggaeton singer or some similar traumatic experience :-). The validity and objectivity of his reviews are for you the readers to judge. Give yourself a chance to like reggaeton and start with Tego's 2003 record, you won't regret it.
