Let me begin by saying I am the most huge fan of Abbot and Costello out of all the kids of America!! But I admit I was a little disappointed with this one. It really is a good movie, though the picture iis not the best and the plot sort of leaks.

The acting was good and naturally Lou is funny but, again, the color even the black and white could be a little better. They do the same routine that they do in Hold that Ghost when they are dancing in the water and splashing eachother (Prieceless). Lou is great as the poor lady's son, and Bud is naturally wonderful as the money greedy butcher. And in what movie (Except this one) would they think of putting make- up on a cow named Henry!?!?!

The guy however, that played the prince, isn't that good and might not even act that good. The little boy is funny and its funny the wasy he talks. But you know, the plot is really the same as the fairy tale, but they turned it into a comedy (Could you imagine them in a drama? Of course not). The reason that I only gave it three stars was because the acting, the picture, and the prince. But my little sister loves the movie. Maybe you will too! I just can't bring myself to say anything bad about Bud and Lou. And the movie definetely isn't awful, just it could have been better. And don't all the fans love when Lou sings! I do! And he does sing in this movie!! He is Wonderful!! And the reason you may like this movie!

The film shows a young boy who is waiting for a babysitter. His standards need improving. Jack drives a "Henry J" when he applies for a job. They need a babysitter for Donald, a problem child. Jacks reads a bedtime story, stumbling over the big words. So Donald reads it to him, and the fairy tale begins in color.

The peasants are hungry because the giant is stealing from them. [A symbol of "inflation"?] Jack's mom must sell their cow for food. [Are there political implications here?] Jack sells the cow for "magic beans" when the butcher pulls a slick con job. A shadow falls on the land, and the cow is gone. Jack plants the beans, they grow miraculously to the sky. Can Jack climb the beanstalk to the giant's castle and kill him to free the land from terror and despotism? {Is this too much violence?] While Jack and the butcher are looking for the giant they are found by him, and captured. So Jack sings. The next scene bears watching. Then Jack and the butcher are captured by the giant. We see the castle and hear the talking harp. There are songs for entertainment. Jack dances in his comical way. There is a hen that lays golden eggs, the main source of wealth for the giant.

The giant wants eggs for breakfast. Will Jack provide a breakfast for the giant? The people try to escape from the castle. There is the usual comic threats and escapes, like from the cartoons of that era. This will amuse children of all ages. The prince and the princess are reunited. Jack finds an axe to cut down the beanstalk; the giant does not have a happy ending. Then we are back to the end of the babysitting job. This film is entertaining and different from earlier films. Are the boys losing their touch?
