I predict a successful series for Ms. Laurie!,

This review is from: Abby Cooper, Psychic Eye (Psychic Eye Mysteries, Book 1) (Mass Market Paperback)
There are many preconceptions of psychics and what they do and they are a little 'off the wall' - I was attracted to Abby Cooper, Psychic Eye because it combines many elements of excitement and gives a practical view of what a psychic is and what a psychic feels in the consequences of what they do.
Abby Cooper has integrity, and does what she can for her clients and friends, and stumbles into a murder mystery and a man (hunk) Dutch, a cop who can help unravel the clues. As a debut novel, Ms. Laurie is smooth, entertaining and makes you look forward to her next 'reading' - (next novel) - If you are interested in psychics, the paranormal, as well as a great mystery, pick up this book - you will enjoy it and want to browse Ms. Laurie's website - You will enjoy all of the above and I predict you will instantly be a fan - Keep 'em coming, Victoria!

Abby Cooper is a psychic intuitive. But she can't believe that her blind date ends up being the lead investigator in the death of one her clients...and she's pointed the arrow straight back to herself by confiding some of her vision during their date! Kicking herself, she now has the police watching her as a possible murderer and the real murderer coming to find out what she knows! I loved this book - I can't wait for her next one coming in July. It was funny and engaging, and I couldn't put it down!

This review is from: Abby Cooper, Psychic Eye (Psychic Eye Mysteries, Book 1) (Mass Market Paperback)
After years of struggling to accept her psychic ability, Abby Cooper decides to put her gift to use and starts a business as a psychic intuitive. Her business is doing very well and she is booked months in advance. Abby sees so many clients she can't remember them all and even though she got an "icky" feeling while doing a reading for Allison Pierce, she soon forgets about her. But Allison is murdered and the police, skeptical about Abby's psychic powers, think Abby had something to do with the murder since she knows a lot about it. Abby, needing to clear her name, beings to investigate Allison's life and death. Hunky police detective Dutch Rivers is soon convinced of her innocence but is unhappy that Abby is investigating the case because he realizes the real killer is dangerous. Abby soon realizes she should have listened to Dutch as she faces very real danger.
"Abby Cooper: Psychic Eye" is a wonderful debut novel in what promises to be a fun cozy mystery series. Author Victoria Laurie does a good job of explaining how Abby's psychic powers came to be and how the psychic mind works. There's a nice sense of humor throughout the book, especially when Abby does her readings. Abby is a fully developed character, with Laurie giving little tidbits about Abby's relationship with her parents, plus good insight into her relationship with her sister, Cat, who is another great character. Abby's relationship with Dutch is also well done and realistic as she struggles to accept that he is a cop who doesn't want her involved in the case and he struggles to accept her psychic abilities. As for the mystery itself, while the murder and motive are all too real and tragic, armchair sleuths may be disappointed that they don't really have a chance to figure out who the murderer is. Still, it is the characters that make this book so enjoyable and worth reading. I really enjoyed reading "Abby Cooper: Psychic Eye" and have already picked up the next book in the series. Well done.

Tedious Character,

I love a good cozy mystery. I have read most of the books in this series and have to say it ranks as average simply because the main character is agravating most of the time. She makes obviously stupid errors in judgement and risks life threatening peril regularly because of it.
Remember the old Nancy Drew mysteries? Well Abby Cooper is the updated version of Nancy Drew with psychic ability. She still has to be saved by a man in most every instance.

Abby Cooper, psychic, yet not too bright,
By Karina A. Suarez "Karina A. Fogliani-Ahmed" (Walt Disney World, USA) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Abby Cooper, Psychic Eye (Psychic Eye Mysteries, Book 1) (Mass Market Paperback)
Here's one of those fun books to procure for beach-reading on a very hot summer. Attractive author and psychic Victoria Laurie introduces us to Abigail Cooper, a Detroit resident and psychic extraordinaire who can be clumsy and highly tactless at times, and who describes herself as "vanilla flavored" - meaning her life always seems to lack something, like the yummy fudge chocolate sauce topping on the classic vanilla ice-cream.
In the first installment, Abby finds herself involved in the middle of a mystery that will eventually cause four deaths. Although skeptical of her powers at the beginning, detective Dutch Rivers (who, you guessed it, lived in Holland for a few years and thus speaks fluent "Dutch") learns to trust Abby's psychic abilities as she helps the police in solving the murders and apprehending an even more psychotic killer. Other characters who are sometimes quite more interesting than Abby are her eccentric sister Cat (who unlike Abby seems to have everything under control), and her dachshund dog Eggy, who, you guessed it again, has a penchant for eggs, and is inspired by the author's own dachshund. I would have much preferred a story with them as the protagonists and Abby as the second boring supporting character instead. When it comes to mystery writing, the biggest asset a writer can possess is to have the talent of supplying all the clues for the reader, yet presenting them in a way that the truth is not easily arrived at. In Ms. Laurie's case, I have to agree with reviewer Richard Stewart, when he states that the character development in the novel is "somewhat lacking", and the fact that the killer does not appear in the story until the final chapter makes this a mystery that lacks the capacity to not only be an above-average novel, but a deceitful one as well. Still, I will give Abby Cooper another try, especially when I am looking for a light, yet not particularly engrossing read, on yet another hot Florida summer.

I loved this book and can't wait to read the rest of the series.
Abby is delightful, her talent amazing.(the author has the same talent, WOW!)The secondary characters were interesting - very important in a story I think. Victoria Laurie is definitly on my keeper shelf along side Earlene Fowler,Jaqueline Girdner, Sue Grafton and Janet Evanovich. I guess you can see the pattern there - all mystery stories with strong, interesting, talented heroines.

Feel the Force of Psychic Sleuthing,
This review is from: Abby Cooper, Psychic Eye (Psychic Eye Mysteries, Book 1) (Mass Market Paperback)
I read the 2nd book "Better Read Than Dead" before reading her first book & was instantly a fan of Victoria Laurie's creative writing skills. So, I was aware of Abby's psychic power before plunging myself into her 1st book.
Still in this 1st book, it was a revelation of how Victoria Laurie, a bona fide psychic herself, externalize her gifted ability in the form of her created character, Abby Cooper to de-mystify her chosen profession. In this book, Victoria Laurie has done credibility to her profession by portraying them as normal beings with the same type of frustration, humility & sensitivity just like you and me. It is a rare insight into the workings of a psychic mind seen thru Abby Cooper who reveals how she comes to her conclusion thru certain symbols, places, physical descriptions of people or allusion to stories etc. Abby articulates her thoughts & feelings thru the psychic process to create an intimate feeling of sharing her success & frustration in interpreting her symbols. You feel as if you are part of Abby's team involved in solving the mystery. Dutch, Abby's romantic interest, is perhaps representative of society's skeptisicm towards the pyschic profession. They do have a on-off-on-off relationship that continues in the series that entices the readers to read on to see how far in the relationship they will go or not go ahead. One thing for sure, Abby Cooper series is definitely something to look forward to!

I love Abby!,
By Sandy S. (Fl, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Abby Cooper, Psychic Eye (Psychic Eye Mysteries, Book 1) (Mass Market Paperback)
I was wandering through BAM one day, hoping to find a GOOD book that I hadn't yet read and saw the title Abby Cooper, Psychic Eye. I love books about the paranormal, and psychics in particular, so I snatched it off the shelf to read the blurb. I decided it was right up my alley and bought both it and book two in the series at the same time. Am really glad I did! Abby is like the girl next door who just happens to be psychic. She and her cohorts have some very funny dialogue, but when the murder comes down, she shows real feeling and concern. Abby meets a policeman named Dutch and they have this "move away closer" dance going on throughout the book. The plot of the book is well planned, and Abby gets into dangerous situation that her "crew", her spirit guides help get her out of. This book is an excellent mystery, but more importantly, it is filled with people you would love to know. I have read it 3 times so far and have enjoyed it 5 stars each time. Read it and enjoy.

Great Reading, Suspense filled,
This review is from: Abby Cooper, Psychic Eye (Psychic Eye Mysteries, Book 1) (Mass Market Paperback)
Finally! A novel about a psychic that's believable! I'm so tired of reading about intuitives that talk like robots, portending death and doom and then fall over in a dead faint after every reading! Abby Cooper is compelling as much for her normalcy as for her giftedness. I found myself fascinated by the description of what goes on in the mind of a psychic, and Dutch is the kind of guy any woman could fall head over heels for. I also loved the fact that I never knew who the real killer was until the end....even though the clues were all there. Real life professional psychic, Victoria Laurie, weaves a web of compelling suspense, fascinating descriptions, and one fantastic sense of humor! I loved, loved, loved this book!!!!!

Likeable but lightweight,
By
This review is from: Abby Cooper, Psychic Eye (Psychic Eye Mysteries, Book 1) (Mass Market Paperback)
I thought this was a pleasant read with some real insight into the life of a psychic... but the mystery and romantic aspects of the story were somewhat lacking. Abby and the police detective who is her romantic interest have numerous confrontations that quickly turn into shouting matches. The killer makes his first appearance in the final chapter, a lazy device I absolutely hate. And when the two penultimate chapters end with the heroine turning in for a good night's sleep, well, suspense is clearly not a priority. BUT - the characterizations are extremely likeable. I'll give this series another shot, but I'll be hoping for a stronger plot.
