Kindergarten-Grade 3–Abby loves everything about her new home, except that she can't figure out how to arrange her chairs. The woman decides that they need some livening up, so she buys paint and fabric and checks out interior design books from the library. At each stop, she invites the people she meets to "Stop by anytime." Although Abby refinishes and recovers the seats, she is still not satisfied, so she carries them outside and makes a sign announcing, "Free Chairs." Soon the shopkeepers and the librarian stop by to visit. Before leaving, each person carries a chair back inside, places it in a logical spot, and the woman is finally content. The strength of the watercolor illustrations is in the execution of imaginative fabrics, upholstery, and furniture. Although the straightforward text is clear and highlights the importance of making friends, this story features only adult characters and concerns. Readers looking for tales about moving that feature a young protagonist might be more interested in titles such as Rebecca Bond's When Marcus Moore Moved In (Little, Brown, 2003).–Shawn Brommer, South Central Library System, Madison, WI
