Abbyy Fine Reader 5 Pro for Mac is optical recognition software developed especially for the Mac and includes many features, some unique to the Mac version of the software. Toolbars, icons, and dialog boxes are all designed to work seamlessly with the Mac OS Appearance Manager. All core Apple OS technologies are supported, including QuickTime, Apple Speech Recognition, AppleScript, Drag and Drop, and Navigation Services.
A built-in editor lets you edit the image layout manually. Edit recognized text while looking at an image of the source text in the Zoom window. The built-in spell checker will search text for misspelled words in mere seconds. Version 5 supports batch document processing, allowing you to save source images, batch options, and recognized texts in the same folder. The system supports direct launch from Microsoft Word and background recognition. You can also train the system to recognize new characters.

... It scans fairly quick, has simple directions, and sends the pages to Claris Works. It picks up drawings well and is a really great OCR program.

Having been a user of Textbridge and Omnipage, I was never impressed with OCR and the "hype" of the "supposed" 99% or 98%
accuracy. Such numbers seemed like something from a snake oil salesman. (Never attained in the "real World"). But ABBYY Fine reader Pro 5.0 really blew me away with it's ease of use and it's accuracy. Coworkers that saw my copy of ABBYY Finereader 5.0 Pro in action immediately wanted the software on their pc too. (Sorry folks, you have to wait until next fiscal year to get your OWN copy/license). Fast, accurate, easy to use. A software product that actually is WORTH the $100 pricetag.
