One of the Best Thrillers of the Year,
By Douglas (Charleston, S. C. United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Abducted (Mass Market Paperback)
Brian Pinkerton's ABDUCTED may have passed under your radar due to its low profile release, but if you are fortunate enough to discover this title, you will be rewarded with a reading experience far superior to many recent thrillers on the New York Times Bestsellers list.
Though there have been many novels involving the abduction of a child, in Mr. Pinkerton's hands the concept is fresh and full of completely unexpected plot twists. You WILL audibly gasp at at least one point. You WILL read this book in one sitting...even if the house is on fire! Judging from this novel, and his most recent one VENGEANCE, Brian Pinkerton is a name to remember. His work is already superior to those of well-known names such as James Patterson and James Siegel. Also Recommended: HOME IS THE SAILOR by Day Keene; THE CONFESSION by Dominic Stansberry; GRIFTER'S GAME by Lawrence Block; THE CRIMINALIST by William Relling Jr.; NIGHT CAGE by Andrew Harper; SUNSET AND SAWDUST by Joe R. Lansdale; THE ICE HARVEST by Scott Phillips.

The Wife Wants a Little One -- Forget It!,
By mikecalendar (Chicago, Illinois United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Abducted (Mass Market Paperback)
She'll get a little one, alright. But not the kind she's hoping for.No kids for me after reading Pinkerton's book. This world is no place for innocent children. Besides, I've already seen too many kids on the bus that could be mine. I don't read fiction. I don't like fiction. I don't like guys -- authors or not -- with full heads of black hair. But something compelled me to pick this book off the display table at Barnes & Noble. (OK, I'll touch anything that's shiny and red, but that's a different story.) And I loved it! This is a sensational read. Pinkerton has written a can't-put-it-down thriller that left me wanting more. The book reads like a screenplay -- it's that vivid; plays like a movie in your mind. I might just give more fiction a chance. Maybe I'll start with his other book! Brian Pinkerton is one talented writer. I bet he could even make insurance sound interesting!

I read this book in 2 days, couldn't put it down! I had never heard of this author before, but I took a chance and I am so glad I did. Anyone who has children can sympathize with the main character Anita. There was never a dull moment in this one. Highly recommended!!

This review is from: Abducted (Mass Market Paperback)
This book was recommended to me by my aunt, and was I ever glad I tracked down a copy for myself!! A wonderful suspense/thriller that is superbly characterized and plotted! This book will grab your attention from the very first page and won't let go till the very end. Once I started it, there was no stopping me. This author's words just flow, and the story draws you right in. A very nice twist at the end, this book will keep you guessing! I would think that they should be fighting over the film rights to this book. Get yourself a copy, you won't be disappointed. What a great summer beach read! Thanks, Brian, for hours of reading pleasure. Can't wait for his next book!

Parental Nightmare,
By
This review is from: Abducted (Mass Market Paperback)
Books released straight to mass market paperback suffer a cruel fate by reviewing standards at most sites and periodicals. They simply aren't reviewed. Much like "direct to video" in the movie industry, such books are considered as to be unworthy of a review and thus aren't covered. As my work over the years as well as my thoughts when I have commented on the subject should make clear, I don't care which publisher put the book into print or how it arrived. I just want a good story worth reading. Author Brian Pinkerton certainly delivers while working a premise all too real for parents.
Every parent's nightmare comes alive in this novel titled "Abducted" which also provides one very good read. Returning home from a night out celebrating her decision to leave her corporate job and be a stay at home mom for their young son, Anita and her husband Dennis Sherwood are immediately concerned. Not only is the nanny's car missing from the usual spot at the curb outside their home, but also the house is silent when they enter. Their nanny does not meet them and a quick check confirms Tim is not in his crib as he was just a couple of hours earlier. Not only are Pam and Tim both missing, so too is the cash that Dennis had hidden in a drawer. The police become involved and Pam quickly makes clear that she has no intention of giving the child back. Pam has betrayed their trust and is convinced that no matter the outcome, she has done the right thing. Powerless to stop her, Anita can only stand by as the unthinkable happens and her world comes crashing down with drastic repercussions for everyone. This engaging read quickly becomes a roller coaster ride of emotion as the reader is pulled into Anita's world. A world where few can be trusted, even those she had always counted on, to help her search for her child against all odds. Betrayal is a strong theme of the work as well as justice and both run heavily throughout the work. However, while those themes are clear and covered, they do not make the novel a heavy or complex read. Instead, the action-oriented storyline propels the work forward and keeps the reader entertained as the pages go by. Interesting characters, fast pacing, and plenty of twists and turns make this book a fun summer read. [...] Kevin R. Tipple © 2005

OUTSTANDING! A book worthy of being called a thriller.,

Anita's story compelled me to keep reading - right to the end without putting the book down. The heart stopping moments kept me awake all night wondering what I'd have done in her shoes. The writer in me knows Brian made the right choices for her. Gripping and definitely worth the read. Kelsy George 2004 RWA Golden Heart finalist

I was very surprised how good this book actually was! I originally bought it because it was cheap and sounded okay. It was a book that I could not put down! The twists and turns keep you wanting more and more until you reach the end. I don't know if this has ever happened, but it's kind of scary to think that it is possible. Highly recommend to anyone who enjoys a very good, can't-put-down book!

I did not like this one. Audiobook,

The narrator was fine.
The book was slow, boring and predictable. I didn't really care what happened. I really wanted to like it, the premise had potential, it just didn't meet the mark.

Trite & predictable,

I got the audio tape based on the reviews of other readers, but could not listen through the whole tape. Once Timmy disappeared, things became so melodramatic I had to start skipping sections. A bit over the top, with writing aimed at jerking the reader's heart strings.
