An open affront to all things politically correct, this movie has many things going for it, none of them good save for the fact that it is an open affront to all things politically correct. Amazingly exploitative of women, "The Abductors" is impossible to take seriously as a white slavery film because the abducted women never seem to be in any real danger. Ginger (the "female James Bond") and her boss are laughably incompetent, but the villains are even worse. Continuity errors abound, and the acting is frequently so bad your jaw drops in wonder.

Which is why I recommend this film. It fails so completely at what it tries to do that it's actually fun to watch. Long after the sex scenes become boring you will find yourself laughing anew at some production blunder you missed before, some poor bit actor giving impossibly silly lines with his pants down, and a final scene whose melodramatic badness is just beyond my ability to describe.

3.0 out of 5 stars Better than the first, May 14, 2008

After watching the second installment, "The abductors" of the Ginger series I am tempted to go back to "Ginger" and lower the rating from 2 to one stars. This movie is far superior to the first, much better in all aspects. It is rare indeed when a sequel is better than the original, but hey, it happens. This film is better acted, better choreographed, has better villains and better everything! It's even sexier.

Ginger, our spy extraordinaire, is back at it again. She has to find the goods on a sorta prostitution ring (where they sell...mistresses). This movie brings back Jason, her boss who has the hots for her, and introduces a female agent, Carter. Cheri Caffaro (Ginger) was so much better that it makes me think she took extra acting classes. Even the actor playing Jason is better. The cast is more relaxed, more fun and entertaining. Now, this is now a better B movie. Ginger remains as much as a sadistic tease as ever...and then she dances...What's up with the obligatory dance in this movies? It doesn't work when you have no coordination and can't dance!

Anyways, this is a much better film than the first one. A step well above. Oh yeah, and lots of sex scenes, so not for the easily offended, fundamentalist, children, or the weak of heart.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ginger shakes her maracas, July 29, 2009
By
This review is from: Abductors (DVD)
The Abductors: 8 out of 10: Let us face it, some bad movies age better than others. From the wonderfully horrible fashion and hair worn by the leads; to décor including shag carpets (that they actually shag on) and chintzy coconuts holding pushpins (in the bank presidents office no less); the Abductors is simply filled with seventies kitsch.

The Abductors also has an attitude towards woman so politically incorrect they would burn down the theater today. (Great film to show during a Take Back the Night meeting, just make sure you park away from the ensuing riot.) The Abductors is a bit like a feminist raison de ere.

Like any good exploitation film, there is a ton of nubile flesh on display. The Ginger films add bondage, rape and generally cruelty that separates it from the cheerleader and nurse pictures that were its competition at the seventies drive-in. In addition, the girls are silicone free, with tan lines to boot, which I admit I find more appealing than the cookie cutter Playboy models of today's exploitation.

Downsides include remarkably incompetent gunfights (the prop guns do not fire on cue) and the state police (who look Canadian for some reason) are out of a thirties gangster movie (Complete with a Tommy gun that smokes like a Cheech and Chong extra.) The Abductors also suffers from very strange pacing, including a very gratuitous drum solo and maraca-shaking scene; no really, Ginger brought her own maracas to the disco. As a lead actor, Cheri Caffro looks like a hooker a few years past her prime, complete with pancake make-up. The other lead actor Jennifer Brooks (Laurie Rose) is so hopelessly nubile, Caffro looks like her mom.

Great flick to watch while the significant other is out of the house, heck preferably safely out of town. The Ginger films, like that other exploitation classic I Spit on Your Grave, is a viewing pleasure best kept close to the vest.

1.0 out of 5 stars So sleazy you actually giggle at some points!, June 25, 2000

Sleazy 70s exploitation film with some panache features super-agent Ginger chasing down white slavers. Ample sex and violence will please certain contingents while semi-feminist heroine, campy dialogue will satisfy others.

I got this movie on a whim. It's not the sort of movie I usually get, but I was pleasantly surprised. After seeing it, I tried to find one like it,.. but other titles don't quite capture the same essence.
