This review is from: Abel: Piano Concertos Op. 11 (Audio CD)
This is a fine recording of some excellent music from a contemporary of JC Bach. These concerti are as good as the "London Bach's" dozen or more recorded piano concerti and compare favorably to those of Haydn; they are clear antecedents of the Mozart piano concerti. Abel, of course was not an Englishman, but he moved to England as did JC Bach, Handel before him, and many other musicians and composers who found England in general and London in particular far more safe, free, and profitable than their lives at continental courts could have been. The project to record more of Abel's works is highly worthy and this is a good example of it.
