Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 3-6. In these brief outlines of tribal life, religion, government, food, clothing, and housing are all succinctly described. The arrival of French and English settlers and their effect on native life are presented, and each book concludes with an abbreviated look at tribal life today. These short overviews will provide most students with adequate material on which to base their reports. The writing is clear and informative. The well-placed illustrations consist mainly of modern, full-color photographs. Colin Calloway's The Abenaki (Chelsea, 1989) is a longer study for a slightly older age group. These books will help meet the never-ending demand for titles on Native American tribes.?Elaine Fort Weischedel, Turner Free Library, Randolph, MA
