Imagine yourself on a island off the coast of the UK. There was once a village there, but the island has been abandoned. You camp out in the deserted village square. At night, you dream of meeting the spirit Marbas and his servitors. They feast you, and the spirit tells you of your past and future and shows you your eternal life - your pasts lives, your future ones, your true origins, and your true birth and true death. When you awake, you have no memories of the details, but you are now about 50 yards from where you know you went to sleep. When you listen to this CD, you will remember most of what happened...

Mixes gentle bard balladry with psyche flourishes for a unique album that creates it's own world. Y'know all those robin hood / fantasy flicks set in medieval periods with all the spare, bell-chiming celebration music? In Gowan Ring utilize all those traditional instruments and effects in the coolest way imaginable. It's refreshing, and it's haunting.

Imagine Simon and Garfunkel's 'Scarborough Fair' repeated seven or eight times and interspersed with 'psychedelic' drones. That's basically what you have here. It certainly has a kind of beauty, but it's hard to get over the Simon and Garfunkel thing. I wouldn't admit to a fondness for aspects of this music in the company of my more tasteful friends.
