So you think you want a slave?, March 8, 2003
This review is from: Miss Abernathy's Concise Slave Training Manual (Paperback)
There are a lot of "how to" books around on BDSM, which mainly cover areas such as negotiating play, safewords, toys and scenes. There is a dearth of literature on the topic of D/s in a real life relationship. Miss Abernathy has attempted to fill that void with this manual, and has succeeded admirably.
This book is primarily written for dominants who are seeking a slave, although it can equally be read by unowned slaves to gain a focus. (For the record, I am an owned slave and I found the manual to be a very interesting read, as did my Master.) It covers a number of areas that a dominant should consider when choosing a slave, such as: forms of address, general demeanour, the role the slave might fill, as well as things such as signs of ownership, punishment and reward.
In short, the message is: a slave is a dominant's most valuable possession, so think exactly what it is that you want and choose wisely, as the slave's role will reflect on the dominant. In addition, the manual also shows that a large amount of work is required on the part of the dominant to gain and retain a slave.
Miss Abernathy's Concise Slave Training Manual is non-gender specific and as such, can be beneficial to male or female dominants with male or female slaves. Miss Abernathy has done a lot of the hard work in essentially preparing a checklist of things to consider. The volume is slim but is packed with useful information. A valuable addition to any D/s library.

Welcome to the next level of play, December 30, 2000
This review is from: Miss Abernathy's Concise Slave Training Manual (Paperback)
Just as the title suggests, this book is a concise guide on techniques and setting in which to train a slave. Once you have read and practiced the techniques in books such as SM 101 and Screw the Roses, this book is a fantastic collection of ideas for you to set up and negotiate your own S&M relationship. Written in two parts, first the book deals with the various techniques of training your slave - interviews, journals, forms of address, postures, commands, types of services and ornamentation. The book then deals with D/S relationships - what to look for in slaves/Masters, the ethical treatment of slaves and the different types of slave arrangements.
Written in elegant, gracious style which is reminiscent of Emily Post, the tone is very consistent the content of the book, making it even more effective and fun to read. This book is an excellent "mood setter" for two people to read together. Overall, this book is a engaging read and excellent addition to your BDSM library.
