There are a lot of "how to" books around on BDSM, which mainly cover areas such as negotiating play, safewords, toys and scenes. There is a dearth of literature on the topic of D/s in a real life relationship. Miss Abernathy has attempted to fill that void with this manual, and has succeeded admirably.
This book is primarily written for dominants who are seeking a slave, although it can equally be read by unowned slaves to gain a focus. (For the record, I am an owned slave and I found the manual to be a very interesting read, as did my Master.) It covers a number of areas that a dominant should consider when choosing a slave, such as: forms of address, general demeanour, the role the slave might fill, as well as things such as signs of ownership, punishment and reward.
In short, the message is: a slave is a dominant's most valuable possession, so think exactly what it is that you want and choose wisely, as the slave's role will reflect on the dominant. In addition, the manual also shows that a large amount of work is required on the part of the dominant to gain and retain a slave.
Miss Abernathy's Concise Slave Training Manual is non-gender specific and as such, can be beneficial to male or female dominants with male or female slaves. Miss Abernathy has done a lot of the hard work in essentially preparing a checklist of things to consider. The volume is slim but is packed with useful information. A valuable addition to any D/s library.

I've searched for this book for what seems like forever! It is wonderful! I have recently decided to take a live in sub and the information this book provided was absolutly invaluable. I recommend this book strongly for everyone in or interested in the Scene.

A slim, quick yet informative read... This book is a wonderful resource for those who want more out of a D/s relationship than just kinky sex. Even for those with a little more experience in "the scene" than the audience this book was originally intended for can benefit from it: Whenever I become "unfocused" in the direction I wish to take a "subject", I often refer back to this book. Though Victorian based, this is also a good reference for those with a "chop wood, carry water" style of training.

Just as the title suggests, this book is a concise guide on techniques and setting in which to train a slave. Once you have read and practiced the techniques in books such as SM 101 and Screw the Roses, this book is a fantastic collection of ideas for you to set up and negotiate your own S&M relationship. Written in two parts, first the book deals with the various techniques of training your slave - interviews, journals, forms of address, postures, commands, types of services and ornamentation. The book then deals with D/S relationships - what to look for in slaves/Masters, the ethical treatment of slaves and the different types of slave arrangements.
Written in elegant, gracious style which is reminiscent of Emily Post, the tone is very consistent the content of the book, making it even more effective and fun to read. This book is an excellent "mood setter" for two people to read together. Overall, this book is a engaging read and excellent addition to your BDSM library.

This little book contains some serious, thought-provoking material for people who want to train erotic slaves for household service. I've never read a book by someone who takes D/S so seriously and has given it this much thought and attention. I wish Miss Abernathy had been around years ago when I started topping. I could have saved myself a lot of wasted time and frustration.
The reader who was hoping for "Story of O" obviously doesn't have a clue about the real leather scene. I also wonder if he really read the book, which is resolutely pansexual. I don't know where he got the idea that it was for women only. (I'm a het male dom, for the record.)
Highly recommended!

It has been difficult to find this book in stock. It has been eluding this reader for months. Finally, I've had the good fortune to track it down and have one in my possession. This is a _must_ have volume for the connoisseur's library: practical advise, real world issues, expertly presented. Miss Abernathy's Concise Slave Training Manual addresses this special human endeavor with pragmatism delivered with an exemplary writing style. The BDSM resource guide in the back of the book is a valued utility in and of itself. I will reiterate: it was worth the wait!

I'm always looking for books that will enhance my knowledge of D/s and SM. This book is definitely one of them. It has an introduction, and then is divided into two parts: a training program and what to look for in a D/s relationship. I loved the practical and common sense advice given in this book, along with the attention that should be placed towartd proper protocol and etiquette.
Not everyone can or should take on a 24/7 relationship, but for those who are interested in pursuiing such a relationship or are already in one, this book will prove to be helpful.
