Format: Hardcover
Children enjoy books that teach them the basics of counting. Abigail, the giraffe loves to count. It's her favorite thing to do out in the safari where she lives.

Abigail counted the dots on Ladybug 1 2 3. But Ladybug scurried under a leaf. So Abigail counted the leaves on the tree 4 5 6. But... somebody was eating the leaves.

This goes on and on and Abigail is finding it more difficult to find things to count. She tried to count stripes on Zebras but they are always moving. Cheetah moves way to fast and soon it will be night. Together the friends discover a field of flowers. The friends frolic and play and Abigail gets to count. But, the dark night soon settles in and there is no more light and nothing to see to count, or is there? You will have to read the story to see.

Water colored warm browns, oranges and purples are delightfully splashed upon the pages giving the feeling of what the safari might look and feel like for Abigail and her friends. Parents and teachers will enjoy sharing this counting adventure and pointing out to readers numbers, animals and friendship. Little readers will also find a unique surprise flip page inside.

How many counting books can you own? My suggestion is you make room for one more, because Abigail is worth it. She’s trying to count spots and stripes, but her friends keep moving on her. Then there are more issues and it takes some ingenuity before all three friends get together for some counting fun.

The design features giraffe spots on the inside front and back covers, plus there is a special flip up page with a neat surprise inside. Rayner uses warm, soft colors that appeal to the eye and create a calming effect. This would make a nice bedtime book or naptime book.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher. This review contains my honest opinions, which I have not been compensated for in any way.
