This was an OK read but I'm not sure I can recommend it. Here's what I do know. I surfed around Amazon and sort of stumbled upon this genre. I was kind of expecting it to be more erotic with the benefit of sci-fi expanding the possibilities and parameters of what would occur. That's not so much the case here. 5.0 out of 5 stars An Erotic Futuristic Romance Novel, March 3, 2006
This review is from: Abiogenesis (Paperback)
Abiogenesis:
From the back: Reuel is tall, dark and dangerous. His is the face that launched a million flyers. He is the first of his kind, the first cyborg to go rogue, the leader of all who'd come after him. The only rogue nobody has ever come close to catching. Fromt he moment Dalia first sets eyes on him, she knows she is lost. She can no more resist his dark allure that she can cease to breathe.

Dalia is also a cyborg. Manufactured from a different group than Reuel. The cyborgs start to humanize and their creators want them destroyed. Reuel's mission in life is to help save the cyborgs who want a new life for themselves without the control of their creators. He saves Dalia when she is trying to escape. Dalia awakens on a examining table to find a med tech sticking a lethal injection in her neck. He informs her that she is pregnant and must be destroyed. PREGNANT???? Cyborgs don't get pregnant or do they? You will be surprised to find out who the daddy is. Dalia is wisked away to the new safe planet were the rule on the planet is to mate with no less than two cyborgs and no more than four. The ratio of males to females is four to one. Not only will she have to deal with a baby she has to mate with her lover and her best friend Pierce.

This book contains the same concepts and characters as Cyborg. Another book which I have read and reviewed. I enjoyed both books. I disagree with the other reviewer that this book was a waste. I guess, sex, threesomes, and bondage are not her taste.

If you are reading books published by Ellora's Cave, New Concepts Publishing or Erotictales then you should already know what you are getting yourself into. I would pay $11.00 dollars all day and have.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating world., March 20, 2008

This review is from: Abiogenesis (Paperback)
I do love this series, see my reviews for Cyborg and Cyborg Nation for the back story.
This is actually the first story of this series (I read it backwards and still loved it!) -- the story of Reuel and Dalia. The Cyborgs are trying to create their own civilization and Dalia is now pregnant with the first Cyborg offspring. The Cyborgs were bred with no feelings, and the Hunters were cyborgs given artificial memories to make them believe they were human. When Dalia finds out she's really not human and has been killing her own kind, she's devastated. Then she's scared of what may be gestating within her. What if she can't learn maternal feelings? What kind of offspring is it? Nobody knows as it's never been done! How can she choose between Reuel, the father (DNA donor) of her offspring, and Pierce, her buddy and friend from her earlier life? And with the uneven male/female ratio of the Cyborg Nation, will she have to choose?

I really do love this series. The scenes of labor and delivery are hysterical and are alone worth the cost of the book!! And how Dalia contrives to share offspring duties and lovemaking duties is a treat of Solomonic proportions. Don't miss this fascinating series...you may even want to read them in order! I plan to go back in a couple of months and do so...

5.0 out of 5 stars Abiogenesis, September 7, 2008
This review is from: Abiogenesis (Paperback)
Dalia VH570 is the top notch rogue cyborg hunter in her field. When she goes in for a routine examination, the medical tech tries to kill her. She learns that her employer, the company, has placed a hit on her. The question is: Why?

Reuel CO469, leader of the Cyborg Liberation, renounces all ties to the company and the humans that want to enslave and destroy his kind. His dream is to establish his own world, and to build his own nation. He is willing to do whatever it takes to make this happen.

Before reading Abiogenesis, I had no idea what this word meant. The title/definition is the plot's driving point. Dalia is resilient and intelligent, which makes her an excellent match for Reuel. The action scenes reminded me of Resident Evil, Kill Bill and Lara Croft combined. Dalia is still rather innocent despite the fact she has been trained to be a killer. Reuel is dangerous, sexy and tender. You understand what drives him without truly ever knowing what he thinks.

There are wonderful twists and unexpected surprises that I'd much rather not give away. The overall premise is about what it means to be human. Abiogenesis is an action packed read with hot love scenes and interesting, well-developed characters. Ms. O'Connor does an amazing job threading a subplot involving the company as the shadowy presence that lurks in the wings. I strongly suggest reading this book and the continuing series if you enjoy fiery, accomplished heroines and driven, masculine love interests.

It is mostly "world-building" with somewhat mild (or at least not that hotly written) sexual and relationship matters thrown in. I guess I was expecting "cyborgs" to be extreme/intense but it just never got that far. Still, I'd go so far as to say that if you're into science fiction and are not expecting too much, you may like this.

3.0 out of 5 stars Had potential, December 15, 2011
By
Zombie Unicorn (Sunnydale, CA USA) - See all my reviews
I love the world building and re-imagination of this cliché, but I'm sad to see the author fell short of writing a great story. The romance between Reuel and Dalia was stiff and awkward, and Pierce had so much potential but never reached it. The characters could've used more fleshing out, and a lot of pages were sacrificed in favor of setting the environment, that the triangle suffered for it.

The sequels get better though, so I'm glad I didn't let this installment turn me off of the entire series.

4.0 out of 5 stars DON'T GIVE UP ON THIS SERIES!, June 29, 2011
I really would rate this book a 3 3/4 because of the world building and background information on the cyborgs but it is totally misleading of how great the series really is.

If I had read this book first instead of CYBORG NATION, I probably would not have stayed with the series. In fact, I recommend that people start with the 5th in the series TOTAL RECALL and then read from CYBORG NATION on.

Please read my review of CYBORG NATION for more information and recommendations. Don't give up on the series until you read at least CYBORG NATION!

1.0 out of 5 stars My review, June 25, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I was disapointed with this book. The plot line was interesting in the Production Review and I was on a Sci Fi trip after reading Laurann Dohner Cyborg series (which I Loved) I thought why not try this. I felt the plot line was there for the book but the writing and dialogue were lacking big time. Its one of those books where you feel like you could have done a better job writing it. I just wanted more. Not the length but better dialogue with the charchters and more depth to the storyline especially since it's the first book of the series. I finished this book thinking it could have been so much more which left me disapointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars very good sci-fi romance, June 7, 2011

This review is from: Abiogenesis (Paperback)
I really liked Dahlia, because although she is strong, she also has vulnerability. I really like my romance combined with sci'fi or mystery or something else, and both parts should be well done. I think the author did a good job with both. The first part of the story is very exciting and the middle part sets up the romantic triangle. I think it's pretty nifty that the heroine gets to have her cake and eat it too. She gets both guys. Within the context of the story, it made sense, because it was part of the sci-fi scenario and Dahlia is courted by the other guy when the first one gets angry at her and puts her at a distance. Actually, his behavior shows he has some vulnerability too, which to me is endearing in a hero. There are a lot of romances I've read when I wished some other better guy would step in, because the supposed 'hero' was being a real jerk. This hero was being somewhat of a jerk, but he is redeemed, because you find out he really does love Dahlia. Still, he kind of took her for granted. So, the second hero is a nice development.

1.0 out of 5 stars This is not a Romance..........., February 7, 2006

Sista "sistag" (London United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Abiogenesis (Paperback)
If you like your stories to be inconsistent and can live with why the Heroine needs two men in her life and that she's a cyborg (in fact they all are!!) Then go ahead this book might be for you.

To be honest, I'm still trying to work out why I paid $11 for this book. Oh yes, recommended by AMAZON (you know...."others bought..." etc etc I've stopped doing that now!) So I did not read the write up (fatal mistake - I'm out $11!)

Spoiler - read no further!!!!

Even, if you could consider this a love match - she forced the men to accept that she needed the other (oh that's LOVE) and they accepted (because they loved her - but silently hated it yuck) Oh yes, managed to be pregnant at the same time for both of them (fraternal twins - yeah right!)- Happily Ever After (NOT) The book was stupid! Unemotional, aimless, and I'm sorry to say that I'll not buy another of her books - for a long time to come. I think some of these Authors would do well writing scripts for Porn flicks - Sorry changed my mind as even they have some type of plot!

Just to add..... the final comment from the new reviewer if you are going to do the 3-way and bondage there are better books out there but they also have a story line i.e. Lora Leigh, Jaid Black etc. $15.99

Everybodys reviews' is individual however, people are buying books based on reviews; with many different people reviewing you will always have differing opinions if you disagree fine, however why become personal about it? It's my choice as well as yours is it not?
