This review is from: Ablaut and Ambiguity: Phonology of a Morcoccan Arabic Dialect (Suny Series in Linguistics) (Hardcover)
this book is extremely technical, and definitely geared for linguists. with that in mind, it is an extremely good book. it does a great job of explaining both the phonology and morphology of moroccan arabic, in much detail. it contains clear and detailed descriptions, for example, of the processes of pharyngeal spreading and syllabification -- stuff that's very hard to find in general. its main thesis -- that speakers have multiple, competing representations in their heads of the phonological and morphological processes of the language -- is fascinating and very relevant to the larger linguistics realm, and quite well defended.
