5.0 out of 5 stars Terry Cloth is User-friendly to Nylons
After hip replacement, a sock aid is a necessity. The Terry Cloth Sock Aid is wonderful, and easy to use, and friendly to nylons. I'd like to offer a little tip: when your toes reach the stocking toe, press your toes to the floor and hold them there so when the rest of the stocking is pulled on, your toes will not be too tightly encased.

I have 3 types of stocking aids, but this is my favorite!

5.0 out of 5 stars The perfect helper, November 26, 2008
This review is from: Deluxe Sock Aid (Health and Beauty)
This "sock puller-oner" works perfectly. I have two artificial hips and back problems, plus I have very wide feet. This one works perfectly to get both dress socks and athletic socks on quickly. I ordered two and very glad that I did.

My husband recently developed severe osteoarthritis knee pain, making it impossible to bend his knee enough to put on his sock. Suddenly, he was no longer independent, but had to rely upon me for many things, but especially to help him get dressed in the morning.

While I love my husband, it isn't good for any of us to have to count on someone else, and this was a very frustrating period for us.

Then, amazingly, a friend who had hip surgery introduced us to the "Sock Aid." Hers was similar to this, and she happily demonstrated. We have Prime, so the next day, our Sock Aid arrived.

We chose it because it had the flexible opening on the end, which makes it easier to put the sock on - hers was a firm end. The inside makes it easy for the foot to slide, and the terrycloth exterior easily pulled up the sock. It has a firm plastic interior, which holds it open for slipping your foot into it. Even more, it says it is washable. It works so great, I might buy one for myself ;-)

Anyway, Hubby is happy and independent again, and I am happy that he can be free from my "mothering."

Edited -

Within 2 weeks, this wonderful aid began to unravel and come apart. I am now purchasing another brand to replace it ... I have changed my stars from 5 to 1, since it should NOT come apart. (Note, it was never washed, it simply came apart from pulling socks onto the foot.

Edit ... We tried the Carex Sock Aid, however the size ran small, and it didn't fit my husband's foot.

Edit ... After several different tries, we finally settled on Essential Medical Supply Everyday Essentials Deluxe Hard Plastic Sock Aid. It wasn't perfect, with the handle, it kept ending up on the wrong side of the foot - so my husband cut the handle ... and now it works perfectly. :-) Finally, problem permanently solved (I hope).

I have a bad back and hip, making it VERY difficult, if not impossible, to put my socks on! It might take a little 'practice', but it does the job oh so nicely!!

I purchased this product because I have ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) and I have difficulty putting on socks among other things. I was hoping that it would help make it easier. Unfortunately, I can't even begin to load the sock onto the device so it's basically worthless to me. If you have any difficulty with your hands, this item is not for you. If hand strength isn't the issue, it will probably be a worthwhile purchase.

What a boon to all who have had hip surgery or have trouble bending to get socks on. Mine stays in a handy basket beside my bed.

I have ALS and putting on my socks became impossible until I got this. It took a little practice to figure out how to use it properly. It works very well. The only drawback is it is difficult for me to put the sock on initially.

I purchased this item because I was having hip replacement surgery. This sock aid was a great help in assisting me to put on my compression leggings and socks for a couple weeks after surgery. I could not have managed without it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Saved my sanity, June 25, 2010

I had high dose radiation to my left hip in January of this year, and one of the the side effects can be muscle fibrosis (scarring) and edema (swelling) in the area treated. I am currently undergoing physical therapy to deal with this, and one of the most frustrating and difficult situations this has put me in has been the inability to bend over on my left side. Putting on a sock became increasingly more and more difficult and painful and, quite frankly, is now impossible. There were two days I simply did not go into work, not because of symptoms, but because as a person who lives alone, I could not get my left sock on. (Wearing footwear without socks is not permitted in my workplace.) It was enough to bring tears of frustration each morning.

I reviewed this device, and decided to give it a shot, and it has literally changed my life. I can know put on any sock of my choosing on my affected side in a matter of minutes. The construction and material is very solid, and the straps are long enough. I am 6'3" and can't really reach below my knee right now, and I have no issue whatsoever pulling my sock up. I also have fairly wide feet, and the hard plastic, yet flexible, shell fits my foot with total ease.

I highly recommend this device to anyone who may need the additional assistance of getting their socks on. I would have gladly paid many times its selling price for the degree of independence this product provides.
