Book Description

January 24, 2012 1118018494 978-1118018491 12th
Abnormal Psychology 12th Edition, continues the tradition of giving students the opportunity to explore the latest theories and research in the field. It has been adapted to take into account UK/European examples in diagnosis and classifcation of mental illness, statistics on misuse of drugs and treatment as well as a fully revised chapter with European examples on legal and ethical issues.

As distinguished scholars and leaders in the field of Psychology, our author team continues to emphasize recent and comprehensive research coverage that has been the hallmark of the text.  Significant new material correlated to the forthcoming Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders 5 (DSM-5), included in every chapter. Abnormal Psychology emphasizes an integrated approach, showing how psychopathology is best understood by considering multiple perspectives, and how these varying perspectives can provide us with the clearest accounting of the causes of these disorders as well as the best possible treatments.

Created for the 11th edition, we continue to offer a powerful video series for your Abnormal Psychology course with 7-10 minute clips to show in class or for students to review outside of class to help understand the patients experience. Unlike other videos, these feature real patients' and their families, in the context of their lives, describing symptoms from their own perspective. Each video provides concise information about the available treatment options.

5.0 out of 5 stars Psychology plain and simple March 9, 2006
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
This book has everything a student could need for the study of abnormal psychology. It's organised, readable, and accurate. The case studies really bring it all together in "real world" examples. The only caution I would give is that the 10th addition has some major changes from the 9th, so make sure, if you are using it for a class, that it's the edition the rest of your class is using.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent and easy to read July 6, 2004
Format:Hardcover
As the college instructor who chose this textbook, I find this book to be one of the most enjoyed by my students. They find it easy to read, interesting, and informative.
The study guide makes the wide subject area easy to comprehend. While both books are expensive, if you are a student of psychology, these are almost "Must Haves".

1.0 out of 5 stars Missing important graphics in Kindle Cloud Reader April 20, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I didn't realize how much I was missing from the book until I saw a hard copy of it that had the full graphics. I had figured that I could reason what the graphics were about from their descriptions. Because of this significant flaw, I ended up renting the 12th edition of the same book as well.

Amazon, you do not do well by buyers by having the 11th edition of this book available for Kindle as:
1) Many images do not show up in Kindle Cloud Reader
2) Many sections are in a grey background, so highlighted text is indistinguishable from regular text in those sections
3) When I bought this, the 12th edition was being sold for the same price. The 12th edition for Kindle is slightly less portable because it cannot be read on Kindle Cloud Reader (meaning that you cannot read it on a browser; you only read it on a Kindle or a Kindle for PC/Mac/Android/iPad app). The usefulness slightly extra portability of the 11th edition (in that you could access it on Kindle Cloud Reader from any web browser where you logged into Amazon.com) is more than negated by the Kindle Cloud Reader version's missing images!
4) It has DSM-IV information. The whole mental health community is transitioning to the soon-to-be published DSM-5. Grrr.

In other words, I feel hoodwinked. I ended up having to rent the 12th Edition anyway. Ugh.

The textbook, Abnormal Psychology, fed my growing interest of not only psychology in general, but clinical psychology. Being a student of psychology that is searching to find a niche, this book provided me with the general knowledge needed in order to make a decision about what I want to do with my degree, my job, and my life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Textbook in Kindle December 17, 2012
By SMFC
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Using this book in Kindle for Mac was wonderful. I was able to read it and reference it wherever my computer was: always with me. One note is that this will not work on Kindle touch or iPhone. Requirement is for Fire or iPad.
