Book Description

December 11, 2009 071671728X 978-0716717287
Abnormal Psychology could not have been written a decade ago.  The collaborative effort of a clinical psychologist (Rosenberg) and a cognitive neuroscientist (Kosslyn) provides students with a fascinating, progressive, and modern view of how psychopathology is studied, understood, experienced, and treated today.

Like no other text, it integrates the next generation of the biopsychosocial approach by including what we have learned about the brain and its role in psychological disorders.  This new neuropsychological approach shows the dynamic interplay between the neurological, psychological, and social factors involved in understanding psychological disorders and their treatment.   Equally important, Rosenberg and Kosslyn include captivating clinical material that puts a human face on psychological disorders.  The text includes page after page of riveting case studies, examples, quotes, and critical thinking exercises.

By combining the neuropsychosocial approach with rich clinical material, students are provided with the “big picture” of abnormal psychology so they can understand and remember it, and apply it to the world around them.

5.0 out of 5 stars A gem of a book, November 6, 2011
This review is from: Abnormal Psychology (Hardcover)
I put of the Table of Contents and most of the lengthy preface as well as some of the acknowledgements so you can see what a wonderful and helpful book this is as the publisher has not agreed to anything, at least at the time fo this review. The preface is very complete, explaining their methodolgy and perspective. I think that reading through the pages I put up you will get a good feel for the breadth of this text. What really impressed me most about this book was typically abnormal psych books are dry, pedantic or overly fluffy full of new age "truisms". This book OTOH has a true medical and clinical approach to abnormal psych coming from a strong biochemical perspective. I was very happy to see the integration of neurotransmitters and psychology here and I think once you have devoured this as a study text you will find yourself returning this as much used and loved clinical handbook. It is well written, approachable and throughly engrossing. I think this book truly shows the union of science and art in the field. I really liked it. Highly recommended. /TKL
