5.0 out of 5 stars Sorry to give it up
If I didn't need the money so badly, I'd keep this textbook. It's the first time I haven't been dying to get rid of a textbook. Make no mistake. This book is intelligent, a great read, and the layout is not overdone (unlike some books where your eye doesn't know where to look first). For me, it is the perfect model for a psychology text--reading never felt like an...

1.0 out of 5 stars Worst textbook period
Over edited, dry as a bone and just scatterbrained. Topics are in 2 sometimes 3 places so it's hard as heck to pin down what Comer is saying. Far as I'm concerned its just padding to fluff up this monster of a book. It's only about 400 pages but he rehashes so much that it comes out to be 587 and with over 100 pages of references, seriously. Its almost as thick as the...

This book is intelligent, a great read, and the layout is not overdone (unlike some books where your eye doesn't know where to look first). 5.0 out of 5 stars The best text book in the field so far, February 4, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Abnormal Psychology (Hardcover)
Only after having to read and digest so many boring and endless text books, first medical ones, and then psychological, I can apreciate a good one when I see it. "Abnormal Psychology" is an easy to read, elegantly formated, and very interesting book about the subject. It is not, however, what one might call popular sceince type. Fitting very well for 1st-2nd year students, it will serve as a waem welcome into the world of pathopsychology.

5.0 out of 5 stars A joy to read! Not too technical, but full of useful info!, May 10, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Abnormal Psychology (Hardcover)
I liked this text because it presented the information in an unbiased manner. It used a lot of case studies and current events to support the various psychological theories. The CD ROM was extra helpful because it had quizzes over each chapter as well as videos.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book!, February 3, 2010

Beautiful book! It is just beautiful! I love it. Written well, great examples, and the chapter reviews on the book website are saving my butt. They have quizes and crossword puzzles for each chapter (and more) to help you learn all the information in the chapter. Thank you so much! I was a graphic designer for years and years and I have to give some big props to the layout and design of the content of this book. Great job! I just love it.

4.0 out of 5 stars great text, terrible website, November 7, 2010

i think this book is a great read. i actually have found it very interesting and engaging. my prof assigns case studies from the website, though, and it has been a nightmare. between not being able to get the appropriate plug-in, losing the whole thing when i tried to print it, having questions and terms from previous editions of the book, asking questions beyond the breadth of info in the given chapter...it has been very frustrating for the whole class. but this is the publisher's fault, not the author's, so i don't judge it based on that. good text.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good and clear book, October 9, 2007
This was one of my favorite classes in college and this book was very supplemental to my professor's lectures. The text was very clear and there were really good examples to help get the point across. It was nice because it was very concise and to the point.

5.0 out of 5 stars great book with captivating examples, November 29, 2010

This review is from: Abnormal Psychology (Hardcover)
Overall, this is the best book on abnormal psychology I have read to date. It possess articulate language accompanied by clear and interesting examples. This textbook would be great for anyone looking for a reliable source in psychopathology, it's material is detailed but not difficult for people "outside" the field to comprehend.

4.0 out of 5 stars Finally, a good textbook!, January 6, 2010

This review is from: Abnormal Psychology (Paperback)
I rarely keep my textbooks. I thrive off those few dollars the bookstore shoves at you at the end of the semester just to get rid of the things. But this is one I have kept in my library. It's a great introduction to psychological disorders. It's easy to read & has a great flow to it. I actually read this book. Who reads their entire textbook? Honestly? I've encountered many texts that were basically impossible to read - too boring, too complicated, etc. I've had friends over (non-psych students) that have flipped through it more than once because it's truly interesting to read! If your instructor has assigned the book - congrats! If you are just interested in purchasing for your own entertainment - go for it (if you're into buying textbooks, that is)!
