5.0 out of 5 stars Great DVD for Zedd fans, January 15, 2002
By
This review is from: Abnormal: The Sinema of Nick Zedd (Audio CD)
I've been waiting for something like this to come out for a long time. Even though I have obtained most of the films on this disc through mailorder for Zedd himself, the quality on most of the films on this disc are way better than the video versions.
In some you can't expect the quality to be superb because they were shot on Super8, but the rest the transfer and sound is great.
On this DVD you get the following films: Police State, The Bogus Man, Ecstasy in Entropy, Why do you Exist, Whoregasm, War is Menstual Envy (exerpt), Tom Thumb in the Land of the Giants, the Wild World of Lydia Lunch, Go to Hell, Zedd's Collaborations: Thrust in Me (with Richard Kern), Go to Hell, I of K9.
Also included in the supplental section are: One of the weirdest interviews with Zedd ever..whereas the interviewer is never seen but is constantly yelled at by an unseen person. Zedd is constanly vogueing to someone off camera and gives sarcastic and short answers to all the questions. This interview was for Police State/Whoregasm. You also get outtakes ans screentest from Why do you Exist and Ecstasy in Entropy, Concert Footage and Interview with Zedd's Industrial noise band Zyklon Beatles, and a trailer for War is Menstrual Envy.
This is definately a must for all Zedd fans, this has everything you could possibly want, aside from commentary which would have been an interesting addition. It's definately worth the price as well because you get every and all of his short films possible. Hopefully they will release more in the future such as his new films and such.

5.0 out of 5 stars Zedd's not dead!, October 18, 2004

This review is from: Abnormal: The Sinema of Nick Zedd (Audio CD)
I discovered Nick Zedd through my obsession with Lydia Lunch. I watched Richard Kern's Hardcore Collection before any of Zedd's work. Seeing him in Kern's film really made me interested in him. I ordered this and was pleasantly surprised! many people like Kern's style better. I personally couldn't choose. Even though they were both apart of the transgressive film movement, their styles are quite different.

This is a perfect dvd to get if you're new to Zedd. It's not horribly expensive {compared to what some of his singular, vhs films cost on his site} and it has many of his great short films. My favorites being whoregasm, the wild world of Lydia Lunch and the excerpts from War is Menstrual Envy and I of K9 {featuring Terror Firmer's Will Keenan!}...the interview with him is quite amusing as well, he has very colorful facial expressions.

So if your unfamiliar and curious about Zedd, get this dvd! You won't regret it! {welllll, you might if you are easily disgusted, heh}

5.0 out of 5 stars Sharp, December 15, 2002
This review is from: Abnormal: The Sinema of Nick Zedd (Audio CD)
My money was well spent on this fascinating DVD which includes alot of entertainment.

I was particularly impressed by the diversity of the soundtrack music. The Swans are featured in two films, Go to Hell and Kiss Me Goodbye and the impact of this music is stirring.
The Dream Syndicate supply the music to a film Zedd collaborated on with R. Kern called Thrust In Me.
The excerpt from War Is Menstrual Envy likewise features outstanding music as does Tom Thumb, a recent digital movie by Zedd featuring the eerie and chilling sounds of Copenhagen's ANK as well as an appearance by Steen Jorgensen of Sort Sol.

Original music supplied by Lydia Lunch with the help of Thurston Moore, Jim Sclavenous and Pat Place featured in The Wild World of Lydia Lunch is much better than the repetetive sounds one hears in Kern's movies, though both are good. Comparing Zedd to Kern is like comparing apples to oranges.

Additionally, the rare interviews with Zedd, including a short doc on his noise unit Zyklon B are excellent.
The sounds produced by this short lived "digital hardcore" unit are way more exciting and innovative than stuff one usualy hears and the visuals are riveting. Nick Bohn was some kind of musical genius with the sequencer, producing amazing white noise harmonics with Zedd in Zyklon B.

The best stuff on the DVD are the colorful visuals and rare outtakes utilizing some of the most extraordinary underground personalities I've ever seen.
