Product Description

"The score for 'Abominable' was absolutely inspired." -Harry Knowles, Ain't it Cool News

It has been sighted 42,000 times in 68 countries. A creature of myth and legend known by several names; Yeti, Sasquatch and the infamous Bigfoot!

We’ve hunted it for years, but what happens when it decides to hunt us?

"Abominable" centers on a man recovering from a mountain climbing accident, trapped in a remote cabin in the woods, who sees the legendary beast, and must convince someone to believe him, before the monster goes on a bloody rampage.

This suspenseful and innovative score was written by Lalo Schifrin and recorded in 2005 with a 90 piece orchestra. It’s the first horror score to be written since Mr. Schifrin’s Academy Award nominated score to "The Amityville Horror." Schifrin achieved a horror score that is packed with suspense, fear, and action. Twenty one tracks including bonus tracks.

This is extremely moody, creepy music, great for anyone who just loves soundtracks or evocative music in general. Also makes a great addition to those using music for rpg games. Highly recommended. I haven't seen the movie, but it turns out that the father is a famous composer, and his son was the director for the film.

5.0 out of 5 stars There's something out there, and it's great music!, September 10, 2011
This review is from: Abominable [Original Motion Picture Soundtrack] (Audio CD)
Lalo Schifrin's score for his son Ryan's excellent Sasquatch horror film Abominable is nothing short of superb. The music oozes suspense and dread. For example, the first track, Pre-Title Sequence, is quite effective at this, combining the sounds of nighttime wildlife with Schifrin's forbidding tones. It begins with the noises of the forest, and then Schifrin's music slowly creeps in, whereupon one by one the animal noises stop, as though terrified of the music.

The two best tracks are The Cave and Rampage. The Cave one of the longest, from the scene of Ziegler Dane exploring 'Squatch's lair, and has lengthy periods of moody ambiance punctuated by sudden, jarring notes that really put your nerves on end. Rampage is pretty self-explanatory; it's from when 'Squatch is attacking the coeds' cabin and causing general mayhem. It isn't creepy and suspenseful like The Cave; instead, it's loud and thunderous and really gets your heart pouding.

Apart from the general movie score there are a few "bonus tracks," but only one is really worth anything. Girls Next Door is a fun and jaunty little track that I guess is the theme for Preston's carefree coed neighbors. There's an actual song called One Blade of Grass, sung by Pat Windsor Mitchell, which is tolerable at best. I can't remember where in the movie it's from (probably the gas station scene). Then there's a 48 second cue called Otis Leaves which is so short I don't get why they included it, and finally an alternate version of Rampage which isn't as good as the one used in the film.

All told, Schifrin's score for Abominable is top-notch, must like the rest of the film, and if you're a fan of either the movie or of Lalo Schifrin in general I highly recommend this CD.
